Hello all, so yes basically im a complete phone idiot and dont know what to go for or how numerous things work. I've decided I will just phone up o2 and try to barter a decent offer..but I dont know for which phone or how to decide which phone would be good for me.

So Wi-fi on phones, it seems to come with them all now in some form, but I need to ask for data at some rate such as 1Gb per month for £10? How fast do you go through data just browsing while using the wi-fi at someone elses house? Or have I the wrong idea here?

In the past i've only used phones for calling or texting, nothing else. I couldnt care less about a camera or ability to play mp3s really. Though I think I may start investigating this wi-fi and push email stuff on my next phone.

Anyone know of a decent cheap and cheerful phone which provides the above? Or where to look/get thorough reviews to help me understand this lark better.

Essentially i'd want to get the phone with 100mins, unlimited or high text count and a bit of data for browsing for around £20. Oh and the phone not being completely turd.

Last phone was a samsung soul which was poo to me and i felt a mug on a huge unnecessary contract. The call volume being very low did my head in but at least the phone looked decent.

You don't need a data allowance if you're only going to use Wi-Fi. You'll only need it if you want to use the internet whilst on a mobile connection. If you only plan to use it for websites/a few emails, then you should be fine with just 500mb data allowance.

As for phones and reviews, you could try:

I'd use a combination of the above to get a 'mean' (as in the average) opinion about a phone.

If you've been with o2 for a long time they might offer you a discounted contract :p.

Does anybody have a phone that isnt top of the line that they would recommend? As I said I dont care about the camera or mp3, more concerned with decent calling, messaging, wi-fi and email.

Blackberry Bold 9700s can be had for close to £20 a month these days. Since you want unlimited texts, I'm sure you'd appreciate the keyboard.

If you can wait a bit the HTC Wildfire looks a steal if it really is £20/m, otherwise a good choice would be the i5700 that i went for.

Nokia E63 I'd say be perfect.

If you want/need GPS E71/72 though they are more expensive.

Great call quality, fantastic battery life and ticks all your boxes.

Cheers for all the input guys, bit of a mad time with interviews and exams but will get round to checking it out. Was looking at Blackberrys with o2, the bold and 8520. Can anybody explain this blackberry unlimited pants to me?

I assume I can do anything I want wi-fi wise, msn, facebook, email. But when im out and about this blackberry unlimited thing well....surely it has limits?

Given that you can get an HTC Legend for the same price if you look around, that'd be my choice :) Stunning high quality looks, great OS, does push email and exchange support :)

Yeah, that does look great for the price. Vodafone is it not?

Beginning to regret getting this i5700... but thankfully i got it before T-Mobile upped the price on £10/m from £70 to £110, which is just a bit less than what the Desire used to be.

It is indeed a Vodafone exclusive :( (See this thread for reasons why that's bad)
