Complete Players

He has absolutely no right foot.

And for a winger his crossing can be heartbreaking at times. And i'm no fan of him as a finisher either!!

He's still an absolute legend but he deffo has his weaknesses.

I totally forgot about Gullit. In terms of modern day footballers he could do it all, even at the latter stages of his career.

There is no complete player in all areas. There are players who could possibly be described as complete for the position they play in.

For instance C.Ronaldo, Gerrard, Kaka, Ronaldinho as attacking midfielders. And yet all of them are not great at being a goalkeeper, defender, striker (although Gerrard did well in defence near the end of the champ league final :D )

Got it.

John O'Shea. He's played in every position for us. Clean sheets in goal, 4 goals from 5 shots last season, he was a CM when we were playing our best last season, he is good in the air, uses both feet, is quicker than people give him credit for.

There you go. Someone who can play every position, keeps clean sheets in goal, scores up front and holds together a midfield. Two footed, good in the air.

He is by no means the finished article yet, and therefore not the complete player, but I have a feeling that Lionel Messi will turn into the complete player before too long.

He has the pace, the skill, the finishing ability, can dribble like the best of them, and has a decent touch and element of skill about him.....In fact, I think I have convinced myself he might already be as complete as Ronaldo.

In the Premiership, Ronaldo and Fabregas are the closest at the moment, although to be complete I feel that you still need to be noticed on the pitch even when your having a bad game, and only Ronaldo can currently do that.

You'd have to convince yourself he's as complete, because he really isn't. Messi can't head the ball, he's not very strong nor is he as quick. He doesn't pick the best passes like Ronaldo can either.

Ronaldo CAN do everything, Messi can't.

Cesc hasn't played well since returning from injury and has at least 3 assists. He was poor against Spurs but still created a goal. So does get noticed when playing badly :)

Aye, but didn't he get subbed off?
Ronaldo just gets on with it.

It's a difference between England and Spain, you have to be physically a lot tougher in England than you do in Spain.

Agree with nokkon, Messi is too small and imo won't enjoy the physical side of our game to be the same player over here. Now ive said previously that i think Messi could go down as an all time great (and become better (not more complete) than Ronaldo and Kaka) but Kaka and Ronaldo are far more complete players imo.

I don't think that would be the case should Ronaldo go over to Spain. I genuinely believe Ronaldo would find it easy, if he makes England look so easy then he'd be on a rampage in Spain where he gets more time, more space and less physical players.

Messi is a brilliant player, but I believe he lacks some things that a lot of other players have (obviously he has things that other players don't) and him and Ronaldo for me are the 2 flair players at the moment, but I just can't see Messi being as good as Ronaldo, unfortunately it's a case of players looking better than they potentially are in other countries but England.

Had Scholes been in Spain, his career he'd have been thought of to the same level as Zidane for example, someone like Morientes is a great player and was classed as a 'world class' player, but he couldn't do it in England and it showed his inability to adapt. I think many players who are thought of very highly in the world game would look a lot more average in England.

I guess what I'm blabbing about is, I don't believe Messi would look as good in England as he does in Spain, but I think Ronaldo would look better in Spain than he does in England.

I think if you are a flair player like Ronaldo or Messi there is far more of a challenge to playing in England than Spain simply due to the pace of the game, climate etc.

I think its a lot harder for a foreign player to adapt to England than other leagues, hence Berbatovs price has rocketed as he's done reasonably well. Similar with Tevez as we already know that he can adapt to the English game. If a big club are buying from abroad theres always the chance that the player wont adapt or adjust to the English game like Shevchenko , Forlan(ish) etc.
