Complete protection

Norton is ****. Not "The ****", just ****. (Also have fun deciphering stars).

I have it on my PC atm... dear God it makes it run slow! I'm doing a format in 2-3 weeks (new CPU :)) and am nuking it from space, burning it with a flamethrower AND getting ceiling cat to horrifically maul it. It's the most useless piece of software, and it's installed on so many PC's... oh well.

NOD32 will be covering me on the Virus front, and as for Firewalls... I'll research all the good free ones (Ashampoo, Sygate, Comodo or w/e it's called) and see what suits me best.

Norton is utter junk, people who know nothing about PC's end up blocking everything through the firewall, the resident shield more often than not ends up using 100% of the punters CPU cycles and it doesn't always catch everything it should. I've ended up in the past fixing all sorts of family and friends of the family's PC's (gratis normally :() and nearly every time all it required was uninstalling Norton and putting a decent firewall and AV package on.

Another vote for NOD32 here, plus Spybot.

As for Firewall software I can't comment as I use a Hardware Firewall my self.

Also stay away from anything Norton, utter crap!

We all have our opinions :)
Norton has never let me down so thats why I like it and I basically get NIS for free anyway :D

I have tried many other firewalls & antivirus programs (free and paid for), but I find that Norton Internet Security runs best on my computer.

It certainly doesn't (as some claim) slow my computer down in anyway whatsoever at all, neither are there different messages popping up all the time, simply setting it up correctly in the options lets it run in the background and just "do its job".

This is ALL from my experience.

Sorry to disappoint those who dislike it so. :p

Exactly what I am saying :)

like i said norton for noobs lol

and how do you know it has served you well? If the thing cannot find the virus you may not know you have been attacked in the 1st place

We get many new PC's/Laptops in with Norton preinstalled, it always causes problems, whether it be network connectivity, performance or general annoyances.

I was an avid Norton user for around 4 years, luckily my subscription ran out and i tried AVG/NOD32/Avast which are all superior for my needs.

Norton tries to do to much, a jack of all trades master of none i would say.

This will be for 3 pc's so

Kaspersky: £72.00 1 year
Bit Defender AV10: £60.75 2 years
F-Secure Internet Security 2006: £49.95 1 year
NOD32: £64.00 1 year

Hmmmmmm

If you don't want to pay:

AV: AVG (Free) / Zone Alarm (Free)
Firewall: Sygate (Free)

And Norton is my least of favourites, infact I dislike it a lot. Nod32 has been the best AV that I've tried so far.

Had many people claim 'Norton doesn't slow my PC down'. I then make them uninstall it, and then they actually notice how slow it was before.

I'd recommend Windows Defender (formerly Windows Antispyware) instead of Spybot/Adaware. MS actually seem to have bought something that does a good job of finding all that is wrong with Windows. Pity they couldn't've just stopped it happening in the first place...

Why do people think Norton sucks?
It has kept me totally safe over the past 2 Year's and my PC has not decreased in speed like y'all say it make's it

You install something like PC-Cillin and then you'll notice the difference.

I also used Norton for years and it worked perfectly. I then installed and used PC Cillin and my PC was a whole lot faster... especially on stuff like install.s

i do not assume you to be a noob lol. It's is just that the majority of pcs i repair are solved by removing norton. I do not see why you need norton when there are so many better programs out there. But, as this is a free world, it is down to you what you use, my opinions are my own
