Complete waste of £80 million

What a complete waste of money! Surely the money could have been spent on something needy for the UK. Something like, the homeless, cancer research, hospitals etc.

Looks pretty awesome and is totally worth while foe the area.

You can spend all the money you want on the homless they'll still homeless. Cancer research already has more money than it knows what to do with and 80 million is barely enough to buy toilet paper for hospitals given thier waste. (Or 6% of thier annual negligence claim cost)

Society does not advance by trying to drag the bottom rung up

Looks like a pretty nice building tbh...

The NHS is already getting increased funding, unemployment has decreased yet again, employment is still pretty much at record highs. If some smack heads want to refuse help/not attempt to help themselves and sleep on the streets then that's up to them, it shouldn't stop the rest of society from having nice things like museums etc.. or make anyone feel guilty.

Bringing jobs and a rise in revenue from tourism. Those monsters!
Exactly this.

If there are a lack of job opportunities where are the homeless going to work once you've thrown money at them to get them sorted? This place could offer roles for basic entry cleaners, canteen, handymen etc etc or indeed much better.

The tourism money could also be ploughed into local causes.

IMO the building looks fantastic and having seen the inside on TV, i would say it was worth every penny of the £80m it cost. There are plenty of other buildings around the Uk whose cost makes the V&A Dundee look a complete bargain, £189m in 2013 for Birmingham's central Library anyone ? Don't get me wrong, Birmingham central library is also a great building, i just can't see where £189m went.

God, what a bleak and colourless world these earnest lefties want us all to live in, no museums [ unless they are tractor museums ] no parks,
public artworks or tax funded festivities.
Why does everything have to be the fault of the left or right these days.. Seems like the latest "cool" Internet statement.

I think it's a stunning building and will definitely visit if I'm up that way.

It's difficult to put a value on the arts, good architecture etc and I struggled to appreciate it for years. Don't know what changed tbh but I like it now.
