Completing games

I have a massive list of games I have bought from the Steam sales which I intend to complete throughout 2013.

I try not to play more than 2/3 games at a time as you can quickly lose interest in the others.

I plan to of finished all of the games I bought in this Sale before the next Christmas sale, giving me a good 12 months to do so.

There will be other games I pick up throughout the year too. It;'s just a case of picking a few games and sticking with them until you have finished them.

I usually only finish the main story and tend not to bother with side quests/missions etc. I keep those for dry periods in PC gaming.

My Games List 2013

Just don't understand why people do not finish games. Why buy them then??, Surely you read reviews before hand or do you just get bored with it??.

I understand that cheap games are available on steam etc and they are only a click away but what's the point if you just have a quick look and that's it or maybe not even that. My mate has the same problem and now has a huge backlog of steam games that he will never play. He's picking them up real cheap which I think is the problem but he just keeps buying more games than completing them.

I also have about a 10 games backlog but playing through them with all of the spare hours I can find. I always finish each and every game and only play that one game until complete and move onto the next. I find it much better than multiple games on the go as you can just concentrate on one game and cane it. Most of my games are single player but play through from start to finish story wise and try to complete 100% side quests etc but not always. The only time I will not complete a game is if it's completely **** but that is very rare.

Yup, I get bored with them. They get reviewed very highly, I just don't find them very interesting. Half Life 2... never finished it...

I do usually just buy multiplayer games, as I generally prefer playing others. Rift, CSS, BF2 and Bad Company 2 are my top games played on Xfire. I don't think any single player games get passed 20 hours.

Hmm, I don't think I've done it just for the achievement (i.e. for the electronic tick-box "you did it"), but I have gone back and done more purely because an 'achivement' highlighted that it was possible - I tend to think of them as giving you either hints for new ways to approach a game, or throwing down the gauntlet of a challenge that sounds fun once you've read it.

I think that's a good way of looking at it, I am very anti-achievements in general but there have been the odd one that has piqued my interest. It is a bit like back in the days when I couldn't afford many new games I would set myself challenges to boost the replay value of games, e.g. Quake2 I probably completed about 10 times giving myself harder challenges like Hard+ skill level, ban on powerups, ban on BFG, no mid-level saving allowed etc.

My preference is still games that give in-game bonuses however, I think Bulletstorm was pretty good in this regard i.e. the way XP was allocated for fancy kills but there was diminishing returns from continually using the same type of kill so it encouraged you to branch out a bit.

I stopped halfway through HL2 for a while but went back to complete it the other day. I highly recommend you do the same, it gets better and better. :D

I've played Dead Space 2 for nearly 2 hours but haven't gone back to it. I suppose I should try to complete that as well.

I understand what you are saying but I rarely get bored of games because I make sure I only buy games I really want. If I do start getting bored than I will still hurry up and finish it regardless. I never get that bored that I don't want to play it anymore.

Half Life is a great game and isn't to long, I suggest playing the rest of it or starting from scratch.

I got Fallout 3 GOTY in the sales for £2.49 was getting into the game about 3 hours in and my save game went wrong, causing a lockup every time I loaded it. A new game starts fine, but not the save. Cannot see me finishing this one as I don't want to put 20 hours into it just to have to start over, at least it was cheap. Played half of Dead Space 2 on release only just got round to finishing it, just didn't grab my attention like the first game.

Saves sometimes get corrupted on FO3. Just don't overwrite the same file..... make a new save every time..... and you won't lose more than 20 minutes (or however regularly you save).

I try to play the game for as many hours as it cost me, if an hour is £1.

If I play it more it's good, FTL if I don't then as long as I reach the cost of the game then I am happy.

I rarely give up on games, but two I can think of are Farcry 2 (just got onto the second map, realised it was the same old repetitive crap) and Farcry 3. Only played Farcry3 for an hour or so.

Weird coincidence? Or not... lol

With regards to reading reviews first? Yes, I always do that for everything I buy. Farcry3 got 90+ pretty much everywhere, yet it's still utter ****. IMHO of course...

Cant remember the last game I completed on my PC...on my Xbox however I try and complete most of the games I play....Rage and Brink being the exceptions.

Depending on the game i'll try and get 100% achievements too.

I complete games that I enjoy, when games begin to get tedious or they are generally just too long winded and I'm bored of it they are left for another day.

So far been playing Half life 2 for approx 2 years and not completed it due to me getting bored and losing a save.... 1 day I will complete it, Promise :)
