Right,

I have just joined the ranks of the 360 owners :) with a premium bundle inc COD3 GOW (goddam I hate beserkers!)

Now I have the component cable from the 360 to use.
I have a Holdan hsr1000 auto scart router/switch which my sky box and amp connected too.
I also have an epson EMP TW10H projector connected to the switch via an RGB-SCART to component lead.

The projector support HD and has HD15 (VGA) input plus RGB-S component input and s-video.

Ok you following so for :).

Now currently I have had to use the composite to scart converter to connect the Xbox to the scart router.

But! I want to see HD goodness!!! soooooo how do I do it?

I have found a RGB to scart converter on a popuplar auction site but haven't been able to contact the seller yet to ensure it will support HD signals.

The only other option I can come up with is to buy the Xbox VGA lead and a long vga lead as the projector is on the other side of the room mounted on the wall and I can find a suitable lead that actually says it carries HD! now I'm pretty sure they all will but would just like to be sure.

any one got any thoughts?

does that even make sense?

HD can only be sent over component or VGA from the 360.

Do not get this confused with composite which is what is commonly found converted into a scart plug.

A scart lead RGB or composite will never give a hd signal from a 360.

You will need to either plug it in the vga or component.

Yep I appreciate that but there are component to scart converters and this scart router is a specific rgb-scart router not just a std scart switch.

Any thoughts on long VGA leads. (need 10m)

RGB Scart isn't component. It's better than standard scart, but isn't in anyway HD. I'm pretty sure a scart socket can't support HD TV in anyway, so you'll have to use component or vga to get a HD picture.

Oh really, damn. What about the Xbox rgb lead? thats supposed to carry the HD signal? is it just determined by what you plug it into then?

RGB SCART, and Composite can not carry HD signals I don't believe, probably 480p, but not 100% sure on it. The only cables that can take an analogue HD signal for definite are VGA and Component. Neither will work with a SCART switch I don't think. You'll probably be best going for a VGA extention cable.

Ok so I need to get the Xbox VGA lead and an ext. Will any VGA ext lead be ok or does it need to meet any specific specs?

A VGA cable's a VGA cable, as long as it's reasonably good quality and long enough, you're fine.

You know when you buy the xbox premium, it comes with a HD lead doesn't it? You know you've got the 3 that go into the scart.... and then another 3 wires, are they composite?

No.

The HD lead that comes with the premium has the following connections:
Red + White (Audio)
Yellow (Composite video - standard def only)

Red + green + blue (Component video - can carry an HD signal)

So, you can set it up in three ways:

1. Audio into audio in sockets, with yellow (composite) into composite socket (standard def only)
2. Audio and yellow composite into SCART converter (standard def only)
3. Component leads into component socket, audio into audio socket (can support high-def)

You will also need to set the switch on the side to SD/HD as required. The links on this page should answer all your queries about the different types of audio and video connections

Nope, interlaced to 576 or 480 only - doesn't have the bandwidth for anything higher.

Your projector isn't HD anyway so just buy a scart cable.
Ah yes, I've just checked the model number and i-bert is correct, it's an SD projector so you'll be gaining nothing by using a compenent or VGA cable I'm afraid.

Ah, that's what I was thinking. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

if its anything like an old PJ i used to have it will support HD via vga using pixel compression.

granted it doesnt look as good as a native HD PJ but it looks a lot better than composite :)

Ok now i'm confused, I have gone back to the manual and it says the following. Im only picking out the supported display resolution that mention HDTV.

Component Video.
HDTV (750p) 1280 x 720
16:9

HDTV (1125p) 1920 x 1080
16:9

Analog RGB (VGA)
HDTV (750p) 1280 x 720
16:9

HDTV (1125p) 1920 x 1080
16:9

so it would seem it does support HD over component and VGA I think a little bit of testing is in order. Unfortunately it says very little else ref HDTV.
