Hi all

I have finally decided to start upgrading my current rig. PC used mainly for games

Current setup:

CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H
GPU: MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozr III
HDD: 1TB WD Caviar Blue
SSD: 120GB Samsung 840 PRO
Case: Corsair Carbide Series 500R
CPU Fan: True Spirit 140mm
DVD±RW: LG GH24NS95 24x DVD Writer
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Jet Black 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz
PSU: 650W Corsair Enthusiast Series TX650M
LCD: Philips 239C4QHSB 23" IPS

Plan is to change CPU, GPU, Mobo, CPU Cooler, Monitor (looking at PREDATOR 4K XB271HK 27"), RAM

I'm planning to go for:
CPU: intel-core-i7-8700k-3.7ghz-coffee-lake-socket
Mobo: asus-rog-maximus-x-hero-intel-z370-socket-1151-ddr4
GPU: asus-geforce-gtx-1070ti-strix-8192mb-gddr5
CPU Cooler: be-quiet-dark-rock-3-cpu-cooler-hs-008-bq.html
Monitor: acer-predator-4k-xb271hk-27-3840x2160-ips-g-sync-gaming-
RAM: corsair-vengeance-lpx-16gb-2x8gb-ddr4-pc4-24000c15-3000mhz-dual-channel

Is my PSU good enough to handle the above build ?

Any advice for the setup above appreciated

Thanks

@Rubin85

Yeah 650w is enough for an 8700k + 1070ti. However, with some cost savings on the motherboard, CPU cooler and CPU you could get a 1080ti:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,935.43 (includes shipping: £12.60)

The 1080ti would run games much better at 4k. But for gaming, I think a 165hz 1440p monitor would be the better choice.

I will be using the monitor for my PS4 as well so worth having 4k :) I'm more convinced for Asus mobo based on the reviews. As for the cooling, for the £20 difference it doesn't mean much to me to be fair but I'll go for the one that will be better for overclocking so i assume it's be quiet? That is my basket do far, anything else need changing ?

The ASUS motherboard is, as you said, very well reviewed. But I think you would be limiting yourself with that cooling solution - you'd want a 240m/280mm AIO or a dual tower air cooler to get the most out of your CPU. You can get the same performance on motherboards at much lower price points. That board is designed for the enthusiasts who want to push their (likely delidded) CPUs to the limit.

Also, if you're sticking to 4k then the 1080ti would be even more important as you become very GPU-limited at that resolution. There isn't a huge difference between CPUs at 4k; it's more about the GPU.

Fair enough, I may stick to below basket as long as i won't regret after few years :)

@Quartz , it's time for serious upgrade after 7 years with the same rig so i need something new for another few years :) Money, we have them today to spend tomorrow :D

Not much to show :p Monitor is amazing, the true colours makes the difference. Still trying to configure with some issues so will see how it goes.
