Computer game music

Monty On The Run (C64), Thing On A Spring (C64), Thrust (C64)

See a recurring theme here.

All three are from when music had to be generated by the machine, not composed then stremaed as are many of the tunes of todays games.

all IMO of course ;)

Sitting on the starting grid when Loops of Fury kicks in when playing Wipeout on the PS2 was pretty cool!

  • UT series - favourites would have to be the music from DM-Healpod, or the one called 'Conduit'
  • Deus Ex - the music from the Area 51 level (if you've played it in multiplayer, you should remember it :))
  • Red Alert - The hell march was great... but Crush and Bigfoot were even better in my opinion :D
  • C&C - Just do it up!
  • Ace Combat series - I thought a lot of the themes for the missions in AC4/5 were very, very good.
  • BF1942 - Anyone remember the introduction theme?
  • Desert Combat - Oh man, was there some good music in that mod :D
  • Doom 3 - Just the menu theme. I simply loved it.
I can't think of any more... well I can, but I thought I would stop there and post again later when the tune suddenly pops in my head :D

Probably cheating, but best music I can think of for a game is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Great selection of music in that game.

But if you want a golden oldie, then it has to be the old Amiga game, Cannon Fodder. "War has never been so much fun.. dum de dum.. never been so much fun..".

Serious Sam. Really. It captured the manic nature of the game perfectly. Most games I turn the sound off, but Sam I left on.

Console: Ace Combat 4. I used to do homework while listening to it. Rex Tremendae (Final mission?) was brilliant.

PC: Veitcong/Purple haze, gotta love the waaaaaaaaa.
Also, Tyrian! :D

In Oblivion the track named "atmosphere_01.mp3" in the "\Oblivion\Music\Explore\" directory gives me chills and goosebumps every time without fail; its like it came straight down from the heavens, it is that beautiful.. In fact, the rest of the sound track is just as majestic and even though I've probably listened to it a countless number of times it never gets old.

atmosphere_04. 06 and 07 are my fav's, listen to them quite a lot, also modded wow to play that music at certain points.

Have to agree that i missed out C&C original music, "im a mechanical man" cant beat it.

Suprised no one has yet to mention Zool on the com64

Also condemned had some good music, along with COD 1 & 2.

Dark messiah's music is also pretty decent, nothing on the scale to support the game, but still good none the less.

Pretty much anything by Rob Hubbard from the old C64 days.

Jeremy Soule is fantastic, I especially like his work on the Sorrow's Furnace areas in Guild Wars.

Add Ocarina OT and FF in there as well.
