At work use us the naming convention of room-01 eg RM4-01 or we use brand, year bought and then number eg Dell2014-01

I was once on a course with a network engineer. He had quite a few machines to name on the network so kept a copy of The Silmarillion handy for Tolkien names for all the machines. My network names are based on function. Main-PC, HTPC etc.
