Computer Names, what do you think?

in the original jap release of sonic one, the name they used (as I recall) was pretty much a literal translation of 'egg-man', due to his shape. he became 'Dr Robotnik' for the American release, presumably to identify him as the enemy (communism!)....Robotnik is the slavic word for slave

Yeah I hazily remember that first point now, the second one I did not know and is very interesting!

Robotnik is certainly ingrained for us westerners now though, it was shocking but I suppose that second point shows perhaps why they changed it back.

Anyway.. HORSECONDOM :D

Thought the same when I rebuilt my PC with a whole load of new parts, ended up with a spare PC to go alongside it which I donated to my housemate.

I called mine "Omega Supreme" (transformers reference) because the case was huge.

Asked my housemate what to call his PC, he said "Bertie"...

:confused::mad:

For those wondering why the machines are named, may I ask do you have more than one in your house and are they networked? Logically, if so, you need to name them. Main-PC, Work-Laptop etc are all fine and all but not very imaginative.

At work I was trying to convince my colleagues to come up with some kind of naming scheme for our servers based on car manufacturers or models, but in the end we settled for the usual server1, server2, servermail etc.

On the upside though - suppose it was better than naming one of the servers Alfa Romeo... might have been tempting fate a little.

Cray-2. All my computers ever have been called Cray-2.

Please understand... I don't actually call it Cray-2, or even think of it as Cray-2, but when you register Windows and it asks you for the Computer Name that's what goes in the box.

I think that's what this thread is about (isn't it?)

I don't say to the Mrs. "I'm just popping upstairs to have a go on SONIC for a hours or so", or "SONIC is in need of some new fluid"

Is the Belldandy PC exceedingly helpful and lovely?

Generally, and quite powerful :D
At one point I had Rei, Asuka and Misato (with the router called Magii), as I was running a very quiet machine, a very noisy overclocked beast that was slightly unstable, and a third that just needed a name :p

Just name it something meaningfull for when, you know....you actually are going to use it for something USEFUL. Like oohhh...I dunno.....accesing it over a network.

Some gimmickky "LOOK HOW CLEVAR I AM" name is never going to be seen by anyone except you and ONLY when you go looking for it. The only use case scenario (accessing on network) should be memorable and simple.
