Hi since I bought my computer I have been experiencing this problem. It can be at any time my computer will randomly freeze up for a few seconds then restart, I have noticed that it does this more when for instance I play a bluray film or play a game but it will still restart if its just sitting on the desktop with nothing running. Some days it is completely fine some days it will restart several times in an hour.

The specs of the PC are:
Windows 7 Professional
Intel Core i3 CPU 503 @ 2.92GHz
4.00GB RAM 1333MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
Gigabyte H55M-S2H Motherboard
******** 650W PSU

After a restart I get this critical error in event viewer :

Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Date: 03/02/2011 12:54:23
Event ID: 41
Task Category: (63)
Level: Critical
Keywords: (2)
User: SYSTEM
Computer: AlexMH
Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Me and a friend believe the problem to be the PSU, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also update your drivers, graphics, sound and lan etc

You can test psu with multimeter see if its supplying enough consistantly to the system

Nova Tech 650W ATX Power Supply for AMD and Intel Motherboards 20Pin + 4Pin
Its a really terrible PSU. Thats why me and my friend think that would be the issue

Alexmh your problem is that power supply for sure now I see what you have... also you need to remove that link ;).. it takes us to another supplier.

Also this Cooler Master GX 650W Power Supply £59.99 inc VAT is better than the Corsair Builder Series CX 600W ATX Power Supply £58.99 inc VAT above ...

Modular No
PCI-E 8 Pin Connector 2
Floppy Connector 1
ATX 4+4 Pin CPU Connector 1
ATX 20+4 Pin Motherboard Connector 1
Max Load +12V 624w
Rated Wattage 650w
Amps per 12V Rail 52
4 Pin Molex Connector 3
+12V Rails 1
Warranty 5 Years
SATA Connector 6

the corsair is

4 Pin Molex Connector x 6
Amps per 12V Rail 40
+12V Rails 1
SATA Connector x 6
Rated Wattage 600
PCI-E 8 Pin Connector x 2
Modular No
Floppy Connector x 1
ATX 4+4 Pin CPU Connector x 1
ATX 20+4 Pin Motherboard Connector x 1
Max Load +12V 480w

so you will see the important numbers for the Cooler Master GX 650W Power Supply

Max Load +12V 624w

Amps per 12V Rail 52Amps

Corsair one is

Max Load +12V 480w

Amps per 12V Rail 40Amps

The CX range is a bit of a let down but the price of that range shows that really. They are no match for the other corsair ranges..

Hey sorry to bump up an old post.
I installed a new PSU, the cooler master one mentioned above and I am still experiencing this problem.
Any other suggestions?

download Memtest86 and Prime95.
Start by using Memtest86 and let it run t cause (can take sometime) if your ram is ok run prime95 it should report and CPU faults.

Tried to run prime 95 overnight to find faults but my pc just does the random restart thing. Seems I can't do this. Will run memtest today I guess.

I believe the heat sink to be fine. If I leave my computer on over night completely idle I will wake up to find that it has reset overnight.

All anyone can say is you have 3 options

1, buy a motherboard tester, look on google or an auction site.
2, take it to a PC shop, we on the forums as just stabbing in the dark as we cant test as we go.
3, start RMA'ing part if it's new (start with motherboard)
