Computer randomly freezing.-Help needed PLEASE.

hmmm..........i wouldnt of thought a hotfix is the answer but maybe worth a shot. the files it says it affects are not ones listed in your logs that i have noticed.

ok, did a bit of googling some of your errors, and this is the general response to the northbridge error :
That event ID 14 is associated with a known bug in the Sleep/Hibernation components in Windows 7 RC.

A general description of the bug is, "when a system resumes from Sleep or Hibernation, one or more random hardware components will fail to reinitialize which requires that the system must be restarted to resume normal operation." We have seen this affect just about every type of hardware device attached to a system.

In this case, when this bug manifests itself, the Machine Check Exception (MCE) is initiated by the CPU because a hardware error was detected, but there is simply not enough information to define exactly where the error came from. The hardware error is usually the random hardware component that failed to reinitialize.

The only solution is to try and refrain from using the Sleep/Hibernate functions as much as possible. Also try to save any work you are doing prior to leaving the computer for any extended period.

This bug only seems to affect systems with particular hardware/driver configurations. The latest information we have is that this bug has been fixed in the RTM Build.

Hope this helps.

I don't understand that quote much, and I don't use sleep or hibernation modes. Does that quote mean that the northbridge error is not related to my computer freezing?

it seems like that is a generic error that does not relate to anything in particular from what i can understand.
basically, windows crashes, it knows its a hardware issue, but doesnt know which one so just gives what it believes to be the cause. so from the little bits i have read, i wouldnt think that the northbridge is faulty in any way.

My computer just froze again.
Seriously, I am now at my wits end. I'm really scared next time I turn my computer off by holding down the button, it will seriously begin to damage components.

I am running out of ideas, and I worry that it wont be able to be fixed in tomorrows Lan party.

are you doing anything in particular when it freezes, what do you have running on startup (antivirus, msn.....), does it always boot straight back into windows or can it sometimes take 2 or 3 attempts, do you get the windows didnt shut down properly screen with safemode etc on restart, when it loads to desktop do you get any error messages?

By the way, does this make any sense to you?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2265716/en-us

This is only really relevant in a networked environment (Domain particularly) so it shouldn't be relevant in a home use scenario.

To keep it simple you won't using Group Policies on your home PC :)

Do you have another PSU to test?

It sounds to be that your PSU could be faulty and causing the hangups. I had a similar issue recently and it was down to my PSU

My friends probably have a spare PSU to lend, so I can try that tomorrow.

When I was buying a psu last year, the one I wanted was out of stock so my father bought a different one instead. I got a few comments from my friends saying that particular PSU wasn't good.

Ill test a new PSU tomorrow, thanks. ;)

I normally have firefox, msn, teamspeak etc open. Nothing demanding. Remember it also crashes when it loads up.

It just freezes, and you can leave it forever and it wont do anything. I have to hold down the power button to switch it off. The safe mode message appears because of that. No errors appear when the computer loads up.

it cant, but a virus can and you didnt list in your start up apps that you were running any. dont know why you would run 2 though.
the reason i questioned the HDD is that if its an issue that goes away, it might be some bad sectors, which, if a lot of your drive is empty, will only get written to very occasionally, which would be intermittant and random.

I am going to friends tomorrow, and will reseat all computer components, adding heat paste to the CPU, and checking the power supply. I shall return to this thread if the problem occurs again.

-The bad thing about the freezing, is it is totally RANDOM. It can go for days doing nothing, and then returning in its former glory. I hate computer hardware.

Ive looked through the internet and power supply problems describe exact same symptoms. I have a cit gold 550w psu- looks like it is dying? :L

what speed are you running your ram at? I had random lock ups when at 1600mhz (XMP profile) but not at 1333mhz.

then again I had issues with my harddrive too so couldn't isolate which the problem was down to.

don't know if this helps at all
