computer reboots on shutdown

When you shutdown does it start up straight away or does it turn on randomly?

The reason I asked is a friend of mine had that problem, we have the same system and we even went through the bios checking for anything that was different but couldn't find anything that would cause random booting.
He does have the BT router on all the time but I do aswell.

His problem only started after installing Norton but even after removing it the problem persisted.

Are you running Vista? I had the same problem until disabling all power management option in the BIOS.

Well your problem sounds a little different to that of my mates so you could try this :-

Right Click My Computer
Click on Properties
Click on Advanced
Click Startup and Recovery Settings
uncheck Automaticaly Resart

It may work and if it does it looks like you have an error on shutdown.

I had this exact problem recently, annoyed me for a long time.

I tried re-installing Windows etc but after A LOT of trial and error, I found the problem to be with the power supply. The Antec one that I had worked fine in all other respects but would reboot my PC after shutting down. A replacement cured the problem.

I had this problem after messing about in the BIOS, there is an option to automatically power up whenever it powers off, i think its in case of a server losing power so it can reboot itself and doesnt effect remote users.

Do you know where this is, I'm not good at the BIOS

I had this problem too when I was using XP. Even after reinstalling Windows it happened. In the end I got a new hard drive [it was just getting old], it hasn't happened since.

What spec is your system? If you are using a really old system like a pentium 3 for typing letters etc to keep your main Ultima Extreme SLi 8800 GTX free for serious stuff like games :D then it may be Advanced Power Management causing a problem. Never a problem unless its a motherboard designed before xp.

If your system is newer try taking out all pci cards (not your grapics card) and unplugging usb attached devices I did have an old yamaha soundcard that worked fine but caused restarts on shutdown.
