As the title says, this has been happening for a couple of months now and I haven't figured out a solution to the problem.

Whenever I have to install windows updates and it asks to restart the computer I have to shut the computer down instead of clicking "Reboot Now". This happens with everything where a restart is required. It's really frustrating.

Powering down is fine and so is switching it back on. It's just when I reboot from windows where the issue is. I've played around in the BIOS to try to see if its a problem in there but it isn't. It also reboots perfectly fine from the BIOS.

Is there anyone who knows of a solution to this issue?

Can you change your boot list?

It might be that when you select to reboot from windows, something changes in the BIOS and it selects a different device to try boot from, in this case it boots straight into the BIOS. Is your HDD the 1st selected device on the boot list, or is there a DVD/CD drive that's first.

Very unsure if that could be the reason, but it might be? Plus sorted the list out helps boot a little quicker!

My SSD is listed first and as far as I'm aware it has priority in the boot up process. I will of course double check when I get the chance.

Was just the first thing that popped into my head. Not sure if it could have an effect, but seems strange to reboot and go straight into the BIOS. What OS do you have installed?

my problem with windows update is to turn my pc off i have to restart to avoid updates rather than the other way around lol. It sounds like windows can't comunicate to the bios/motherboard to reboot and therefore it hangs with a restart. tbh a reinstall of windows would be the only fix

It doesn't go into the BIOS when I reboot it just hangs on the BIOS startup logo. When this happens everything is unresponsive which means I can't even access the BIOS, I have to shutdown the computer, wait 10 seconds or so and then power it back up. I was hoping to not have to reinstall windows. It is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.
