Computex 2024

Apparently 25% tariffs on electronics will be back starting june? Fully expecting even higher prices on 5xxx + 25% on top or more lel.
Shipping also is rapidly going up in prices - already almost on very high COVID lockdowns pricing. That 25% could easily go up to over 30% all things added up. But that won't happen instantly, current stock won't be affected as it's already been imported, only new stuff should be. And I can bet we'll see similar price raising in Europe because our distributors base their prices on US market in USD, even though in theory it has nothing to do with Europe. :/

We're currently looking at $6500 for a 40' out of mainland China. Some shipping lines are doing it cheaper but lead time and equipment shortage is causing all kinds of issues.

Rates WILL increase from 14/15th June, and we're expecting between $1000-$2000 increase. Murmurs have been floating round that they will hit $10,000 before the end of the year, but thats just speculation.

The whole thing has been manufactured by the shipping lines by doing blank sailings on vessels and continuously rolling bookings, which is generating higher demand due to delays. On top of this, people who usually import christmas stock / fireworks later in the summer are now trying to get stock moving earlier which isnt helping the matter.

They probably will announced RDNA4....and then overprice it.
Where as AMD usually prefer to launch second so they can slightly undercut Nvidia I think if they are only doing midrange stuff with RDNA4 then they will be desperate to launch early so they can price them up against Nvidia’s current gen stuff which will mean higher launch prices rather than wait till Nvidia’s faster next gen stuff is out.

Honestly, it feels like AMD are trying to punish consumers for not buying the overpriced GPUs and will massively delay the product stack again.

The 7800XT was almost a year down the line after the 7000 series launched, I don't think they care about product positioning but more about what they try to get away with on price, horrid for us consumers.

Won't matter for Nvidia because their R&D costs gets paid of from the AI and enterprise market now, how little comparatively they sell of their gaming GPUs doesn't matter anymore so they can price them high.

You say that like they owe you something?

:D
No? But it's what they did do.

Nvidia at least released almost their full product stack in the 4000 series before AMD even released their next product stack.

Considering how they approached the 7000 series cards, it's a bit of an Omen to their approach with the new gpus.

But I'm an advocate for low prices for all

Pretty sure the tariff only affects China imports to the US. Shouldn't affect us unless everyone decides to buy direct from the US for whatever reason.

Can’t believe noctua want $150 for their new air cooler.

I like Noctua a lot, their products have always been excellent and their support is up there with the very best.

But they are facing a lot more competition now than they have for years.

That’s a LOT of money for an unattractive air cooler IMO (in terms of the aesthetics, the new fans aren’t particularly good looking either).

I could be wrong with this but I think a lot of Noctua buyers don't care about looks, they don't use cases that have windows so they never see the inside of the case

To a point, I use a Noctua chromax cooler on a case with a glass panel.

I get what you are saying though.

But how good is this cooler realistically going to be to justify that price? It will be very interesting to see it go up against coolers that are substantially cheaper. Noctua charging 50% more for 5% performance increase probably.
