Concept2 indoor rowing

Big 'ahhhh'... I did wonder how they ensured people were on a level ground but that makes sense.

5k must be a killer!

Nah you get used to it pretty quick, hard going for about 2 weeks, then you seem to adjust from what i remember going back a year. 10k is my ave distance per day now, 15k once in a while and can finish but takes some mighty effort for me to do last 2k, think i go out the traps too hard with that one tbh.

well I have a hunch nothing but I dont want to spend money on it and it isn't anygood....basically I have been put off getting the Horizon oxford rower I was all set to get it! One of the things that does seem good with the concept 2 is the back up and motivation i think it would create having rankings etc, also the concept 2 seems to hold value really well.

Would like to hear from somone that has and Horizon Oxford see what they have to say..and like you say whats wrong with it if you want to get fit ????

I'm buying the Horizon Oxford 2 CS Air Rower next week. I Thought about a concept 2 but know one has really give me a good enough reason why its better than a Horizon Oxford 2 CS Air Rower  i use the concept 2 Model E down at the Dave Lloyd and its really good compared to the cheaper ones ive used in the past but over £1000 :D.

I will be interested to see what you think of it compared to the concept 2!when will you be getting it.... will it be early next week? and where from?

I know what you mean about no one giving a real good reason.

Regards

I hope its good, i would love my own concept 2 but just cant afford it.

A big problem with anything other than a concept 2 is that you cant compare yourself to other's times.

Stuff it im going to save up for a couple more weeks and get a Concept 2 Rower (Model D with PM3 Console) im taking the hint if everyone is singing its praises and its the only rower i can find reviews on :p.

now you are doing what I did, I had my mind all made up but somthing just kept nagging me to get a concept 2..I gave them a call on friday just to ask a few questions I am placing my order monday for wednesday delivery :)

I think it is the right choice I dont think the other machine will be bad just not as good!

Wise move tbh, the build quality is far superior to one you linked imo and getting spare parts for any part of the C2 is easy (not that ive had to yet) and should be considering price. :)

Not that I know much about these things (this thread clearly shows that! :p) but they seem to hold their value surprisingly well.

I did 2k in 7:40 yesterday, which considering I posted a 9:42 3 weeks ago (pretty much the first time I started rowing properly) is pretty damn good for me!

It's definitely given me the boost to get back on and post some better times. Only thing is I'm now contemplating going on to the harder 5k or stick with the 2k and start improving my times for a shorter burst. 2k seems a little short and I'm trying to burn as many calories as possible in the gym these days.

What do you think guys? Stick with 2k, or go to 5k? I suppose I could always split it up?

So have you guys got your C2's yet?
I've been toying with the idea of buying a model D for a while now but never got round to it. There's always been something else to spend/save for rather than a grand on a rower!
From everyone I've spoken to though these things a pretty much bombproof and will last for a very long time.

The key to not getting horrifically bored on a rower is to mix it up. try 6 X 500m with 1 min in between. Try 15 minutes of 30 sec intervals. try a 10k at slow split.

keep it mixed up - but never have a session where you sit on it for less than 20 mins. so if you are doing the above, warm up for ten minutes.

Rowing is the only thing i like doing at the gym (sadly, i think i actually look forward to finishing my workout for the 2k row at the end).

I cant believe the times people are getting! My pB is just high 7.30's!! Cant believe people are running a minute under that. I`m definitely going to try dropping the resistance down from 10 to 5 to see if it feels better.

What is the best way to increase your endurance? Just lots of long distance (5 or 10k?) rowing? My sprint isnt too bad, with 400-500m left i can usually keep 1:30-1:35 500/m split times, but i would never be able to maintain that pace for longer.

Long, low intensity runs are the key to increasing endurance.

When I was rowing, as our endurance training we used to do 3 sets of 20 minutes, with about 2 minutes rest in between to stretch and drink water. We did this at 2:00 split, or a little less, so effectively 3 sets of 5k. Go by heartrate if you can though, try to keep the HR around 150 - 160. It shouldn't be killing you, but you should be sweatting and blowing a bit by the end of each set.

I've always found UT1 training the most effective for building cardio fitness.

A lot of it is technique - once you are rowing well with the correct form, you can use your primary muscles (quads and lats) more effectively, and your times will drop. Another point is that if you're doing the row after a workout session you'll never get as good a time as you would if you did the row when fresh.

A tip though - pick your target split and stick to it. It's so tempting to start out faster, and you will feel like you're not really working hard for the first couple of minutes, but if you do push harder you will be carrying the lactic acid you produce for the rest of the 2k, which will kill your performance later on. You can go for broke in the last minute though, if you still feel able.

I need to start doing this. I always start off quickly then think "WOAH! - Too fast!" a few minutes in! :D
