Condition of your 360 when sending it to M$ for repair

or buy one from fleabay/or online

a warranty sticker? I had thought of looking actually, I'll go check now.

Tobes - I didnt send back straight away because the console was registered to the previous owner (its second hand) and previous attempts at contacting him were fruitless. Although late last night he emailed telling me he'd ring up support and change the registration, therefore there's a glimmer of hope for it going back yet.

I'm wondering if they'll charge me though if they do refuse to fix it. Stories like snipergeckos makes me want to send it back pronto, but i'm tempted to have another bash at fixing it first....

I know plenty of people who have sent back warranty expired consoles and had replacements, in fact I don't think I have heard of any of them not getting a replacement.

T.

Had they opened it, attempted an X clamp replacement, superglued the DVD drive and battered the warranty sticker though? :(

Definately worth a shot though, I think they just send it back for free without repairing if they aren't happy with it. Wouldn't pay £70 myself for a repair. Just sell your broken box and any spare parts on ebay and buy a new one for a fresh warranty :)

THe us of M$ for some reason really annoys me. It would annoy me if people used it for $ony as well though. It's just lame!

Anyway, if you broke the warranty seal, they won't repair it.

They repair tonnes with broken warranty seals. It will depend whether the contractor is busy at that time and if MS has someone visiting for monitoring purposes. At the end of the day they get paid / repaired console, as such they will repair when it suits them.

Also don't let something as small as M$ annoy you. Yes it is old hat to us geeks now, but for some people it isn't that old and seems very appropriate. In the past year loads of people have had to pay £150 for a Vista upgrade they didn't want, just to get DX10. Tonnes more people have bought a rushed console that is made to a cheap budget and fails all the time. If these are not the actions of a company profiteering then what are?

cheers sibeer - Its certainly more encouraging reading here about the sucess rate rather than on xbox-scene!!!! good grief those guys are unfriendly when it comes to this talk!

exactly :(

Aren't most companies objectives to make a profit?

In any case, the amount of money MS lost in making repairs to the 360 would indicate that they didn't predict the problems from the start. It was just down to a lack of QA, probably as you say in a rush to get the 360 to market.

I think he meant to say profiteering unethically, but I don't want to talk about Microshaft's policies, or MS v Sony etc, I just want to talk 360 warranties.

Btw have you seen the price of warranty stickers on eBay! :O

Do you know anyone else with a 360? You could just use theirs, if they didn't mind of course :p

It's easy to target MS, but I think you would find the majority of the biggest companies in the world are also equally unethical as well.

It's probably the reason why they are so successful in the first place, MS aren't any different. :)

As was said in your X-S post, this is warranty fraud. I also cannot believe OCuK members are agreeing to this as well. Why should Microsoft fix your console for free after you have messed around inside it?

Oh come on it's RROD. I'm pretty sure no one cares unless he modded it...

actually you said X-S.... I guess he has modded it?

I'm unsure whether he has modded it or not. However why would you open it if it got RROD..the console has 3 years woth of warranty. Also the sticker is there for a reason. The other side of the coin is, what if he caused more damage to the system, why should Microsoft fix this?

Dont worry about it, somethings up if "M$" offends you.

My bro sent his first back with no faceplate and was pretty scratched on the one side, they didnt say anything and it was sent back fixed with a brand new faceplate on it! Which was quite nice of them.

I'll make a note to start calling it the PS£ or the PS$ then?

I've done that once by accident (held shift down for too long when typing the 3) and it started a holy war.
