*Confederations Cup*

Watched the Brazil game and geezus those horns are bloody annoying:eek:...Brazil just totally destroyed Italy...what a joke they are Italy that is:p.

But damn those horns are annoying lol.

Lets be honest, they got lucky against USA were down, could easily have been a man down and 2-0 down with no chance of coming back. Took a LONG time to come back against 10 man USA and the final scoreline was insanely flattering. Were made to look very poor against Egpyt, and then lost heavily to Brazil, frankly they were the worst of the 4 teams throughout and deserved to finish below Egypt, who put in a much better showing against Brazil than Italy did.

Thing is the Italian team, I'm not sure anyones particularly good in it bar the keeper, Cannavaro is past it, Pirlo didn't do much, I've never rated De Rossi(who I quite literally didn't spot till 10 mins into the second half), Zambrotta is past it, Cheilini has never looked world class, Toni and the other striker who started to day were awful in all their games. Rossi only looks dangerous from 30 yards and lets be honest, his shots stung but were easily read with years to cover, no real danger, gave away the ball for the 3rd goal. Then their super subs, Pepe, lol, the team is dead and as the commentators mentioned, they haven't really got a whole batch of youth players coming through either.

Italy used to have such strong creative types in midfield they could get away with tap in merchants like Toni upfront who are really very poor. Since the likes of Totti and really all their best players have moved on the lack of real creativity and truly world class players upfront or in midfield really really hurts them badly. Pirlo, Gattuso, De Rossi(if you must) most teams would play a single one of them in DM with a proper totti/fabregas/gerrard/lampard alongside. They are completely missing that player, have no young versions coming through the ranks and the lack of any creative quality like a Baggio upfront means they lack any real defensive unlocking quality. Dossena apart from a slightly unlucky own goal wasn't terrible, not great, but at least could cross. Unfortunately no one told him crossing to no one who could win the ball over and over was pointless, what they needed was for him to run into the box and cut it back for there slow midfielders, but he kept banging it in for Lucio/keeper to win the ball time and time again.

This is on top of the fact that Brazil weren't even firing on all cylinders, Kaka was woeful throughout, misplaced almost every pass, gave the ball away constantly, shooting was way off target. Rameirez has potential but mostly screwed up and looked shattered from about 60mins in, Gilberto was excellent throughout though I thought his partner was less good and Brazil really needed an extra attacking runner there to support the front two who played very, very, very wide.

Lucio was brilliant throughout, still has pace, reads the game perfectly, could have had a brace, was incredibly unlucky to not have at least one. In a name your best team ever thread ages ago I was the only person to include him. Been around longer than most already and is still amongst the best around, huge guy, dominant in the air in the box at either end, great feet, good shot, calm and strong as an ox.

I can't for the life of me understand how no one in the top 3 leagues has picked him up for probably a bargain price.

rio and vidic are both better than lucio. lucio may have had a good game against italy, but is prone to bad games, more often then the before mentioned

He didn't say they weren't better than lucio ?

He said the top 3 leagues, not the top 3 teams.

He did say he was in his best team ever though. Which means that unless he's playing 3 centrehalves, they can't both be better than Lucio.
