Confused by displayed clock speed

Hi,

Im a noob to overclocking so im probably doing something stupid.
But can anyone shed any light as to why Core Temp displays a different clock speed to CPU-Z.

Ive run Superpi 1M and the results suggest that the clock speed displayed by CPU-Z is the correct one..but then im not sure why the bios/windows/core temp pick it up as 3.4ghz???

Any ideas?

Manually lowering the multiplier confuses a lot of software (inc Windows itself).

CPU-Z is always right.

Thanks.
Im not after the fastest rig in the world but 3.4ghz would be nice.

Can you take a look at this and let me know what you think.
I realise that one core has failed but im hoping that my temps are low enough so that i can increase the vcore to compensate.
Also what memory timings should i be using for crucial ballistix? Are the ones identified in CPU-Z correct? They are 2 x 1gb PC6400.

It's hard to tell with the temps as the CPU is running at 75%, but they're not too bad. You can go as high as 70c when Priming.

And no your memory timings are not set correctly. At that speed they should be 4-4-4-12 @2.2v, possibly 4-3-3-8 if you've got half-decent sticks.

As Cob says, it is hard to tell at less than full utilisation. How are you doing for stability, maybe run Orthos or Prime small-ffts overnight for a decent test?

Temps do look encouraging, btw :).
