Confused. Why buy an FX60?

My Tyan only allows me to change the memory. I use Nvidia Ntune to increase the CPU clock speed.

On another note I can fit 800 (Socket 940) series CPU's to the board, but WHY?

i think its becasue there are so many opteron types they're all designed to be backward compatable i think, you say it fits but will it run?

Just look at that, if only it had SLi :p

and that's better, up to 4 physical cors with 2 physical GPUs

but i dont understand exactly what types of opteron is ment for which socket as you have the 1 way the 2 way and the 8 way x_x

the 100 series 940s go in the single boards, the 200 series go in the dual board and the 800 series can be single, dual, quad or 8 cpus

you mean you cant put a 200 series in a single socket 940?
can you get dual core 100 series CPUs then?

Edit: Btw, is there any way to OC the memory on a Tyan 940 mobo?

i know that dude, but they're socket 939 :p i was wondering about 940 server sockets, all those operons have diferent names so help stop people getting confused :o

Oh, sorry.. I see what you mean now.

According to; http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/opteron/Default.aspx#grid
the Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 260 HE is the lowest spec dual core cpu for the 940 socket, So no it doesn't seem that you can get socket 940 1xx dual core chips.

Tyan's bios uses Hammer Configuration. You can change so much I wouldn't know where to start. Unsure if this is because they only take ECC Registered Memory.

When I have changed the timings strange things happen. This is why, when I upgraded the bios, my Graphic cards overheated, now I have to use 77.77

Still unsure if there working at 2 x 16 speed?

But sticking to the original CPU thread starter, yes 200 & 800 CPU's will work in the K8WE. If you use a 100 series then you have no SLI.

EDIT:The K8WE forum has stopped, so I can not reference the owner who stated this. Sorry

I was looking at getting one of these dual cpu boards - will they run with just one processor so I can put another one in later, or not?

Also, is it possible to run two cpus of different speeds on one board?

And finally, just to check what I think other people have been saying, these kind of boards don't really allow you to overclock, is that right? (Cos 2 dual-core, watercooled, overclocked opterons would seriously rock!)

If you are on about the Tyan K8WE for instance, there are several others, then yes you can start with one CPU. But 2 CPU's are required for SLI. Overclocking the CPU is a big no no. I can change everything there is to change with the memory, but as I use Opteron 250's @ E4 stepping I am at max with the options. As mentioned earlier, the disk that comes with XFX cards allows me to OC the graphics and ntune allows CPU OCing. But to be honest I am playing Far Cry 1280x1024 all settings at very high with 8AA and anything else on and its smoother than a polished bottom.
Oh yeah, it cost a fortune. So far £3000, and still I have not even begun to max out.

Why does everyone moan if you buy it or you dont, if someones got the wonga, good luck!

BLAH BLAH BLAH thats all you hear this processor is expensive, this processor is that.......
