Connecting 2 sites?

I have to admit my area is more WAN and we only use 2950's as management switches. I don't really know the pro's and con's for end users (pc's)

But you are definatley correct about using the same kit. All our gateway facilities are identical in architecture design.

I would tell you, but you woul shout and scream at me so I am not going to.

Suffice to say that to get all the fibre equipment, the installation and the wiring and installation of 50 network points and phone sockets in the new building was going to be under £5K yet my work still went against this and opted for the cheapest (daftest) method possible.

I appreciate all you help on this guys and feel I have genuinely learnt from this thread (especially that fibre costs a lot less than I expected).

However my work will continue to cut corners to save £ regardless of recomendations.

LOL,

go on, tell us the worst :)

we won't shout, we promise, we just wanted it work properly ;)
(cos other people may refer to this thread in the future)

Well basically they explained that didnt want to spend tht money as they only plan on putting 7 people in that office ( I can guarantee now it will be 50 by this time next year).

So they said "what about wireless".

Which has basically ended in 2 strands of 10/100 cat5, being linked from site A - site C and a wireless AP being put on the end in site.

God help us!

ah well, could be worse,
you could have 50 people on wireless :D

I've done the same for auditors when they come in.
(darn wi-fi laptops)

it's still worth having some quotes on a network upgrade,
but prep the tech-sales guy first by saying what you want to see in his report ;) (...he won't mind, he just wants the work)

as sometimes (bad) management will give more weight to what an external network guy will say, so you might as well take advantage of that.
