I have just got a second hand 300 gig maxitor SATA150 harddrive which i believe is SATA 1, is it possible to connect it to a molex with some kind of adapter?

That black connector wont fit, its more smaller, infact it looks like a floppy disk connection but my psu dosent have a floppy disk wire on it..

Eh?

The early Maxtor SATAs I've seen used the standard two SATA plugs for data and power. Never seen one with a floppy power connector, or even a standard Molex for that matter.

Some early SATA drives like the lower one had both Molex and SATA power connectors as SATA power connectors were not that common at the time. DO NOT USE BOTH.

The other arrowed connector in the upper image is a jumper connector of some type. It's not power.

The red one is data. You need a SATA power connector as well which goes into the wider plug next to it. If you don't have a spare use an adaptor from a Molex as linked earlier in the thread.

That's the SATA data cable.

You need one of those, plus a SATA power connector which goes in the wider connector to the right of the data connector in the image above.

Er. No.

Data on the left. 7 pins.
Power on the right. A lot more than 7 pins.
Keyed connectors, pretty much idiot proof for anyone with a bit of common sense.

I'm off to bed.
