The only thing I have found, in order to get the sound working, each time I use the setup I have to go into the Creative Mixer, deselect Line In, select microphone then reselect Line In. Sound then works okay.

hmm rather seems as though creative is the problem there - as we just use windows audio controls with my bros basic onboard sound. its works straight off each time. he doesnt need to log into his pc or anything just turns it on - handy because we dont have a kvm switch to swtich between pc and ps3 on the monitor.
perhaps new drivers may resolve the issue as logic would suggest that you should not have to be clicking around to get line in working - its a standard feature
I finally got my cables required, hooked it up, remember to press the power button for the res and got out of range message 
From the Asus forums it seems that it is actualy quite difficult to get it going properly. I got a good picture bit the Out of Range message won't go away
