Conned by C2D

Pentium will be the sales name of the Conroe-L, a mono core version of the Conroe with a smaller cache. Scheduled for the second quarter 2007, these processors will have the following characteristics:

- Pentium E1020 : 1.4 GHz, FSB800, 1 MB of L2 cache
- Pentium E1040 : 1.6 GHz, FSB800, 1 MB of L2 cache
- Pentium E1060 : 1.8 GHz, FSB800, 1 MB of L2 cache

Just search google for the E numbers, and there are plenty of references to intels intention to call these Pentiums. Of course there is nothing to stop them changing their minds.

When you consider how long the Pentium brand has been around, I very much doubt they would drop it completely.

It's actually quite shrewd. Geeks will know that Core 2 is the way to go. People who know nothing about computers will buy Pentium because it's a recognisable brand and because it will be cheap, having become the value line. Intel wins both ways.

now yes, but there was the time when geeks knew that amd was the way to go, and still consumers (i.e. the non geeks) that went "wow i have a 3ghz intel pentium 4, my computer is so much better than yours, you only have a 2.2ghz AMD" oh the amount of times i've had that arguement! silly little noobies :)

General consumers dont know wtf a core2duo is, they would rather have a pentium as they have heard the name before, i have experience of this so i know that using pentium for the celeron style cpu's is a smart choice.

i have a 6400 and cpu-z even correctly idetifies it as a conroe ;)
That's the thing I don't understand. The cpu-z shots of a 6300 I've seen show up as a Allendale, yet the 6400 shots show up as a Conroe.

my friend is like that hes got an amd 3000+ and thinks it goes at 3.0ghz im like no thats its pentium 4 counterpart speed

what?

how is that relevent?

They are castrated conroes, true allendales have not been released yet, cpuz is good but by no means 100% accurate.

Oh I know, I just found it weird that it would show an Allendale for the 6300, but not for the 6400. :)

Forgot, seems like a nice forum you have here.

I'd say you're wrong there, have you not seen the endless "Core 2 Duo" adverts during prime time TV?

yer but becuase the core 2 duo is low in ghz they think that the pentium is better even with the adverst saying its 40% faster and 40% cooler

No they don't, the advert clearly states that they consider it (Core 2 Duo) to be the "fastest processor in the world" or words to that effect.

Take a walk around the store of the purple-shirted variety and it's made pretty clear to the general consumer that C2D's are the best.

Try the latest version of cpuz, older ones put my 6300 as a allendale but the one i dl just now says its a Conroe.

Allendale's aren't out till next year so it's definately not one of those :)

Allendale's ARE out... the E6300 and E6400 are allendale cores... the 6600, 6700 and 6800 are conroe.

The only difference between Conroe and Allendale is the cache - 4mb conroe and 2mb allendale.

Read the whole thread. Then you'll realise you look a bit silly posting that ;)

So this forum's parent's website is misrepresenting the E6300s and 6400s:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-135-IN

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-126-IN

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-127-IN

Along with every other website I've seen selling the Core 2 processors which mention the core variant?

It's not that they're fresh out either... they must have been misrepresented for months... either that or they are allendales
