Does it matter? She has the chance that only some of use will dream of. The money will be placed in trust, earning loads of interest unitl such time she can have the funds.. Good luck to her I say :)

Your opinion doesn't equal fact, and neither does mine.

I hate Big Brother, I find it boring and full of desperate individuals who will do anything to get 15 minute of fame, but there's no need to insult the people who watch it though.

Britain's Got Talent was better IMO. It didn't drag on for months like many reality shows do, it contained a variety of talent, not just the usual singing or dancing that covers the ratings war between BBC and ITV over such programmes as the Joseph one, Dancing on Ice, X Factor etc

Belittling people for not having the same opinion as you will make you simply look like a ****.

Of course there is. If those types of people think that sort of TV is "deep" but in fact mindless TV they should accept they're not exactly sharp.

And should those who try to project their level of apparent superior intelligence in the form of a condescending hypocritical insult, accept that they're not that sharp themselves either? :p

Hey no problem, there's always someone more intelligent than me.

Mindless TV is sometimes good. Howelse are you going to unwind and escape from the reality of the day, although I draw the line at BB. However, it's not my place to criticise those that do as it's their preference.

That's not the point; it's about not insulting others for not sharing the same opinion as you, because then if you do that, however intelligent you are is instantly lost. Similar to how idiots insult others based on their hair colour etc. Do those kinds of people seem smart to you, or idiotic? :)

Someone with £20K of singing training isn't a amatuer

I disagree. I used this analogy in another thread but I'll use it again.

Suppose you want to learn how to drive a car. Lessons cost £25 each. Suppose you take 25 lessons, costing £625 in total. You take your practical test and fail. The very fact that you have spent £625 on driving lessons does not make you a qualified driver - you are still a learner. Even if you did pass your practical test you are still not a professional and you still have a lot to learn through experience.

I appreciate that this analogy is not entirely the same for opera because there is no formal "test" for opera singing. But the point is that you still need to pay for lessons and you still need to go through that learning process to gain experience.

Paul wants to learn opera from the best, it should therefore come as no surprise that lessons are going to be ridiculously expensive. The fact that he has spent £X amount to learn opera does not make him a professional. He is still has his opera 'L plates'. His profession is mobile phone sales. :)

I have to say, it was completely the wrong song for her to sing. No one, and absolutely no one has the voice of Eva Cassidy, and its the kind of song that needs a fully developed voice to be able to fill the range. It's a shame, as all I did was cringe at that, instead of enjoying a fairly talented young person.

And Amanda Holden cries at everything.

wasn't the original sung by a child? I thought that song was from the wizard of oz? Perhaps i'm wrong.

Didn't like her or the one who pranced about like Mary Poppins singing in an awful cockney accent - something about her really irritated me.

I've seen snippets of it (parents watching it) and they generally watch rest of crap.
Crap TV.

When I was at high school, it cost around £30 per hour for lessons from a good singing teacher. My teacher had pupils who had left school, and had been going to her for years. I would easily bet that many of her other pupils had paid upwards of £10k over the years but it's still not professional training, it's a hobby. Professional training would be to go on to study music at university and getting a degree.

Crap TV.
Crap Channel.
Crap Presenters.
Crap.

I don't know why my wife watched this drivel.

Anyway, so a cute little girl can sing. That doesn't make her worth 7 figures. Paying "celebrities" and footballers all this money make me sick. :(

Rant over.
