Now, should I take the plunge or wait 5 weeks lol

lol. tbh ide wait until you can lay your hands on a must have mobo that'll do the chip justice.

I think the Gigabyte GA_965P_DQ6 that OCuk have for £186inc vat will do very nicely with 12phase (24mosfet) power VRMs all cooled passively and quad bios for ultimate bios protection sounds very tempting

check out VR-zone preview of this beast!!

Now that looks like the dog's danglies to me :D

I've come out of posting silence to ask how? I won't be posting again after this, but I will read *how* you got it. Engineering sample per-chance?

He got it from a certain well known auction site. ;)

Looks like memory timings don't affect performance much on Conroe -

Of course they don't. Conroe's prefetching has been massively improved. Prefetching is where the CPU determines in advance that a page of memory is going to be required soon and preemptively puts in a memory read for that page so it is brought into the L2 cache. And the 4MB of L2 also helps a lot.

Alright guys i'm home now, thnak god but well out of it due to lots of pain inflicting and the painkillers giving me some odd feelings. I'm off to eat a horse, sleep and then i'll be back.

If you all have questions get them up togther and clearly for my ill benifit and i'll come back latter and answer them for you. Hows that sound?

Oh Stepping 4 B0 does 3.7ghz air cooled easy dual prime stable!!!

Stepping 5 is pointing to RRP and my Contact @ Intel has confermed that 5 is production

See you in about 4 hours or so

B0 stepping is production. A0 was the sample/ES stepping.

Let's see some bench screenshots of your chip then...

Was only pointing it out for the rest of us...

Thats fair enough mate, seems like we don't need the 375 quid DDR2 after all. :) The 211 quid corsair DDR2 (2gb set from OCUK) should do very nicely.

A0 has bearly shown as ES

B0 has been the ES stepping, fact B0 Stepping 4 QLLO is the full stepping

RRP is BO/A1 Stepping 5 QLLO

Final Thoughts

I originally set out with this processor to see if Intel was indeed attempting to pull one over on us with their "benchmark sessions" they have been holding across the country, but instead I found that Intel has been underselling their own product if anything. The Core 2 Duo E6700 tested here simply swept through the benchmarks, leaving everything in its wake; I can't wait to run an X6800 through the paces to see how it performs.

If AMD's team hasn't started perparing for this yet, they should be starting right about now. And if any readers haven't been hyped about the coming of Conroe, you should start that about now too.
