Just wondering if you guys would change/add anything , i can't wait any longer for R600 and that new asus board has swung it :D

Are you going to be overclocking?

Why crossfire and not the 7950 would be cheaper ;) altho I dont know which would perform better and by how much..

why xp home and not xp pro?

With DX10 and vista being released early next year I think your throwing away good money, as your spec will only be "up to date" for a short while......Can't you wait?

I know it takes a while for DX10 to operate as per users requirements but I am having difficulty trying to justify spending 2g for a short while....
 
Overclocking , yeah it would be nice to get 3gig+ out of the cpu.
Why Xfire over the 7950 , it looks to have the edge at the higher res of 1920x1440.... just .
Xp home , because its cheaper , so you think its worth the extra for pro then ? why :)
DX10 and vista , bah we will cross that bridge when it gets here , it doesnt really matter what you buy , its pretty quickly " out of date "
and my AGP socket 478 system is starting to show its age.
But i was/am seriously considering just waiting until xmas anyways , mmmm decisions, decisions :confused:
 
If I were you I would wait until xmas....

You would save a lot on that spec...

But it still wouldnt justify for me because waiting till xmas would then mean waiting a few months more for quad core cpus etc etc

I believe you need a dx10 for vista, if that is the case then as you say things are out of date pretty quick but not like 4 - 5 months quick....

If you are going to be overclocking why not just for the e6300 instead? the only downside is that it has a 2mb cache but its a great overclocker and it will get you past 3ghz...

If you really wanna upgrade you could it for a quarter of that cost which would include a cpu and a gpu that would keep you going for at least another year by which time all dx10 would have time to settle in nicely..

For the little performance you will see from crossfire vs 7950 I again *** not justify sending that amount of money...

Ultimately I would wait until next year however if I was eager I would build a £500 system which would suffice for a year..

From what ive heard, i think that vista will be fine with DX9.

Most games will be able to use either DX9 or DX10 is what ive heard from a couple of people on here, so not totally sure on that.
 
Vista's fine on DX9. DX10 will only become a problem when games start to demand it.
 
Looks like a good spec if you ask me.

If you wait you will never buy anything. There is always something new and better around the corner.

That system will last a good few years.
 
Looks pretty good to me :)

XP Pro isn't worth the extra imo, so I'd stick with XP Home.

I wouldn't worry about the DX10 issue - DX10 games aren't gonna be popular for quite some time so I really don't envisage that being an issue.

If you're spending this much money and considering overclocking then I'd opt for a Gigabyte DS3 or DS4 mobo, althought I appreciate that these may not fulfil the spec your after. I'd also spec up to a Raptor HDD for some extra loading speed :)

Visa will run both DX9 and DX10, the issue is not with Vista but with hardware compatability, I guess this is the idea MS wants to implement with their hardware partners, so that for those of us that want to play DX10 games a new graphic card will be needed, as backward support for old hardware will not be available.

I did look at the gigabyte boards but fig'd that the 975 chipset was the daddy for E6600 cpu and above as far as clocking was concerned
i would have probably gone with the badaxe before now if it had been available.
The new abit 975 mobo looks to be a winner too.... :confused: lol
And the raptors , they are pretty noisey yes ? how much faster % than a reg. sata drive are they ?

Im in hell. I have 2k and im sat here trying 2 make sure i do the right thing. The main thing is the monitor...I know i have the cash but can i justify the 24"? if i spec it with the awsome nec 20.1" then i save over £300 and it drops down 2 a sweet tig for £1600ish but since im starting an adversiting degree im thinking for photo shop.......better with the 24? arg......

Another point..would one x1900xt be ok on the 24? i could always drop res down in games reet?
 
Maybe consider the halfway house - the 22" Viewsonic VX2235wm for £370 :) It runs 1680x1050 which, although still very high res, should be easier on the graphics card than 1900x1200 on the 24".

The difference in cost could be put towards having dual graphics cards! :p

yeh my freind has one..jst im realy into photoshop so im trying 2 justify the dell24...dont think it will happen.TBH i could have dual monitors for same price of one dell.
