Considering a tattoo

I got a tattoo when I was 18 and five years on I do not even slightly regret it. I got something which I decided completely on my own, and didn't listen to the advice of others.

I am intending on getting another which I have had in my mind for a few years, so I'm just waiting for there to be a time I can just throw that sort of money at a tattoo.

It all depends on what you get, my sister's boyfriend has a tiger trying to break out of his skin it looks as ridiculous as it sounds and he hates it.

:p

That is awesome.

I wasn't really looking for advice on what to get, I was just asking if there are ways of trying before you buy so to speak. I would like to design it myself and considered a sleve with a nice design with the names incorporated into it in a way that you can't really see them unless they are pointed out.

I wasn't planning on just going to get some text.

OP do whatever you want. I see no problem with getting names on you, especially if they are your kids and I certainly wouldn't let any nameless berk on the internet tell you otherwise :p

I used to sometimes think about getting a tattoo when I was younger but never wanted one enough to get one. Now it seems that most people <25 have them

Now I can completely see how saying "well what will you/they think about that tattoo when you're/they're and old man/woman" is the most boring thing you could say on the subject but when you see 18 year old girls with a huge vine that covers half of their lower body and the other half of their upper body, I can't help but think "but what will you think about that when you're 25" and what's with stockings being tattood on!!:o might catch eyes in a night club but what about the rest of life? Oh and I hate tattoos on breasts.

Did I mention women?

Whatever you do, make sure it's what you really want and find a good artist. I have a smiley face on my arse. The quality is so terrible that I honestly think the tattoo 'artist' was as drunk as I was!

I've got one on my leg, that i had done when i was 18. (now 41) For the last 10yrs, i've been wanting to get rid of it. It's just that I keep finding something better to spend the 2grand that it would otherwise cost to get it removed !

It is a novelty, whatever design you get now, will be severely out of fashion in 10-20 yrs, and you'll wish you never had it.

But go-ahead.

Yeah i'd have a good hard think about. As my brother hasn't put much thought(at least it doesn't seem that way) into his latest one and had some nice swastika's put on his wrist as it apparently ties in with the rest of his tattoo. could have possibly gotten away with it, but sadly hes a skinhead. so i can see him regretting that one day.

Hang on, how does someone "get away" with swastika tattoos? More to the point what kind of tattoos does he have if swastikas tie in with them?

Yes I'm aware the Swastika has other meanings and uses but come on, who looks at one and doesn't think "Nazi"?

I did nazi that coming.

Well that's exactly my view, who doesn't see the symbol as Nazi's. Its a tattoo of an old WW2 plane that has a pin up girl of lady luck. But in his picture of the plane it show the amount of bombs they dropped with bombs with symbols of bombs and the amount of germans they killed with the swastika's. So it does actually tie in with the tattoo, its just nobody will see it like that. As the old boy at my work said "some people might not give him the chance to explain himself".
