Considering selling the Insignia VXR. What to replace it with?

I wouldn't iron the £15k (or for Fox's sake, £12k) out right away. I can always save up again. I'm just impatient & want the garden done before the summer along with a few other things. I think I need to take a good long think about what is more important. Having the nice car & save for garden and bathroom etc or sort the garden & bathroom out & save for a nice car...

Anyway all im saying is iv seen it a million times, selling things to pay for other things is not progress in life, its just not, you need to build on what you got.

Whilst i agree to a very limited extent about the "i could die tomorrow so might as well spend all my money" thing, spending £20,000 on a Vauxhall is not the only way of enjoying life. This is what people were saying. Sure buy a £8-10k car, go on a nice holiday to the Maldives, but then SAVE some should you decide you want to landscape your garden in 6 months time.

I can understand your thinking dave, I was exactly the same when I bought my VX. a close fiend of mine recommened the Astra to me and said - go for the 'Life' or 'Club' maybe the 'Design', I got suckered into buying an SXI, ok I know its not the top spec, but it cost slighty more to run. When I said to my friend I bought this model he didnt agree. I look back now and wish Id taken his advise, yes I loved the car but I did spend too much. My Astra was 7K when I bought it, to me this is a lot of money, plus I had to put it on finance at the time.

So if I was you, Id concentrate on getting standard model car, not something thats gonna barely any MPG, you`ll be able to

Afford a newer car.
Enjoy lower running costs.
Not want to change it later on becuase its too expensive.
Not have high running costs
etc etc.

Secondly I think fox it correct, You are overestimating the value of your car, think your looking more towards 13K-14K. I wouldnt want to loose this much in only having a car in this short time, so personally Id stick with it.

I read your other thread, when you got your car and it sounds like you absolutly love it. So personally now you have it stick with it.

Stagger your projects do one of them every 6 months to a year. Ive been in my house 10 years now, was a dump when I firsted moved in, Ive spent about 12K doing it up, but over the course of time, spending what I can afford as I go.

Can you at least bother to read the thread before you hit the 'Reply' button to trot out more tired, irrelevent rubbish? Read the thread and tell me where ANYONE is suggesting a BMW. Infact the complete OPPOSITE is the case - people are cautioning against the purchase of a BMW.

Yet still people like you pop in to say 'omg, asking in the wrong place, they are all BMW fans'.

See heres the concept that some people find hard to grasp, they didnt sell 10 billion Mondeos because they were **** or Ford brand loyalty, they sold them cos they were a decent car.

Hence they get recommended a lot.

The other thing some people find hard to grasp is when someone wants a run of the mill car for run of the mill money, what the **** is the point in recommending a vr this or a xr that, the bloke either needs to just keep what hes got, for the reasons i thought of last night, or buy a 5k bread and butter car, and i suppose the best of them is a Mondeo isnt it really, thats why they get recommended.

And sometimes i think when the circumstances dictate, you can even ignore what the OP thinks he wants and recommend the best car for the job.

Or, now heres a plan, we can all just carry on calling each other ***** and BMW fan boys and do no one any good, thats a revolutionary idea isnt it

He could do that too, and if it was you in that position id say that was a good idea, because you seem capable of being frugal with the money left over.

But this chap, who im not being horrible to at all, dont seem too frugal to me, so he now needs plan B.

You build on what you got, do the house up when and as you can afford it, not blow your brains out chopping cars at a 4k loss every 6 months.

But if he really must sell and buy another and he dont want a Mondeo or a Vectra, buy a 5k Saab 9-5, so at least you got every option a bit of speed and it looks a bit prestigious in a odd one out sort of way.

Have you had quotes done for the work you would like to carry out in the garden?

I am currently on doing our garden, we moved in the house in September, new build so starting from scratch.

I am doing a lot of leg work myself but I think it will cost no more than £1.5k to do.

Pics below of work done...£1k of budget was to get pro's in to do the decking (4m x 3m).

I made the patio slightly bigger, the turf to do next once I have made everything level, then plants. If I had attempted to do the decking myself I think we could have done the back garden for way under £1k

There really is no need to sell your car to get a nice garden...same with bathroom...£2k max required for that.

If you really must the best car to go for and really consider is the ST220, nice spec, quick, less things to go wrong (i.e. no turbo). It may no feel quick, however to looking at the speedo tells you a different story. The lack of a turbo is the reason for this, it is the same sensation in a turbo diesel. Get over this and get the Mondeo if you must!
