Considering selling the Insignia VXR. What to replace it with?

RS4, just rofl.

This thread is just a complete car crash.

We are speccing a normal car for a guy who should never have bought an Insignia in the first place yet has unreasonable expectations of what his budget can buy now he's come crashing down to earth. A £11k 11 year old RS4 is probably the opposite of what he actually needs.

I doubt he realises this though.

If it were me I would take the ST220 all day long.

Otherwise, maybe one of the Honda Accord's plethora of engines might be suitable?

Keep it in the family - get an old Omega. They're awesome! Last proper vauxhall (unless you include all those Holdens). You'd struggle hard to spend 7k on one though - so dont! Job's a goodun.

If you like vauxhall why not get either a vectra vxr if you can find a cheapish one or go for the 2.8 turbo model. You can get a 56/57 with under 40k on the clock for your budget.

It sorta ticks all the right boxes, 4 years old, fairly quick, 5 doors, in budget.

I doubt you would get £20k back for your Insignia as a private seller although I'm not sure how old or how many miles its done.

Don't for one second start looking at rs4's / merc s600's if you want to save money, you'll initially get a great car for the money only to be crippled with the running costs.

To the folk suggesting Mondeo's, the OP mentioned something which should be a slight clue :-

I might be reading that wrong but "Not a Mondeo" generally means "Not a Mondeo".

However a Mondeo is really the only feasible option really, that and its a pathetic follow the crowd grudge he has with Ford for not wanting a Mondeo.

I hate Ford!
They rust very easily and feel/look cheap.

Always found Vauxhall to be more sturdy & reliable...

Vectra VXR at this money is going to be ropey
Vectra Diesel has a reputation for blowing turbos, EGR valves, injectors, flywheels and all sorts,

Vectra 2.2 is also riddled with problems and 1.8 is too slow. So no vectras. No insignias for this money either which leads us onto the vectras / insignias competitiors

which will be :

Mondeo
Honda Accord
Volvo S60

Any reason why Vectra VXRs seem to be holding their money so well? I'd have thought values would have tanked by now. After all, it's a Vaxhuall! :D.

Maybe it is? ;).

thats the only thing. if he wants a family car like he's going to notice that much. its still a 2ltr so no slow coach.

pointless building a nice garden for the kids if he kills them racing from the lights before its finished.

I've gone from a quicker car than his to a 1.25 zetec firsta all in the aid of saving money for our up coming wedding. Around town I'm not really missing much, only when it comes to higher speeds do a miss having a 3.2!!

It being a 2ltr means absolutely nothing. It's the performance that matter and it looks like I can hop-scotch to 60 quicker than that C Max.

I do however agree that he needs to reconsider his criteria. At the end of the day quick, 2006+, average running costs and a decent about of space isn't going to happen for 6-7k £6k? LOL.
