Hi all,

Wondering if anyone is using software Raid 0 for file storage and if it offers any noticeable performance gains? Getting the idea after reading this thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18128402

I have two 500gb drives, they were intended for re-allocating OS's to in both PC's, but don't really need such in one of the PC's as yet. Both are not used as yet.
My main PC's OS drive is a 1tb Sammy F3, all this has is my OS and games on it. Around 100gb to 200gb is all that ever gets used on this drive.
This PC utilises a WD 1.5tb green drive for storing all documents movies music photos pdf's etc etc. It is not near full and could all fit on the 1tb drive.

What I am thnking is either?

Option 1; 500gb OS drive, 1tb storage drive, 1.5tb backup drive.

Option 2; 1tb OS drive partitioned, 1tb storage drive consisting of two 500gb F3's in W7 software Raid =1tb, and the 1.5tb drive for backup.

From reading the above thread having an SSD for the OS and then software Raid 0 for my storage would seem pretty good for performance?

I do find it very worth while because I use it for recording with fraps at 1080p+ resolutions which at 1500000kb/s require at least 200MB/s read and write speeds for smooth playback/recording. And since the files are very large, SSDs would be a waste of money

I would recommend you use option 2 because its the exactly the same setup I use. I have a 1TB os drive split 300GB/700GB, the 2x500gb F3s in raid 0 and another drive for backup
