Console FPS using a mouse/keyboard

I wanted to try killzone 2 on the PS3 and although it looked like it was a great game, I still find it almost impossible to enjoy a FPS on a console playing with a controller.

The accuracy is far far superior with mouse keyboard so why doesnt consoles start giveing us the option of using it. If people want to sit down and relax then they can with the controller, if they want more precision use m/k.

Ive heard unreal 3 tournament on the PS3 supports mouse and if anyone has tried it does it work well?

Resistance 2 is sitting on my shelf haveing hardly touched it and I know that wouldnt be the case if I played it with mouse. Im not going to make the same mistake with killzone 2.

Yes the accuracy is greater, but then if everyone is forced to use controllers on the same console, (ok, take host advantage on the internet out of it) and your left with a very level playing field

Controllers arn't that bad, I'd like to think with I'd be able to stand my ground against M/K combo's

Force yourself to play with the controller, I was a die hard CoD 1 fan on the PC, but now I much prefer the controller

1. It would unbalance the playing field
2. It would require extra work for developers
3. Consoles don't need it

If you want to use a mouse and keyboard just get a PC.

Just get used to playing with a gamepad, other people manage it fine.

Unbalance the playing field? You mean like using a steering wheel for a driving game....? Mouse and keys is a pretty much cracking set of controllers for FPS games. You can't just get a PC - because quite a few games are console only (Killzone for example). Extra work for developers? Oh come off it, it's hardly a huge addition which is unreasonable, and as already mentioned it's been implemented in one game on the PS3 so far. Whilst I agree consoles don't 'need' mouse and keys, their inclusion for FPS would be a huge bonus.

yes i suppose i could get used to it, but its like steering a car with your feet lol.

And as most games are going multi format the codeing wouldnt be too hard for mouse support. Im sure COD could have done it.

As for the unbalancing of the online games, as Unreal 3 has done you can have online controller only servers.

Im just saying that we should have that option for FPS/ RTS games to be able to use a k/m.

You could argue that anyone with a TE fightstick could be considered cheating by not using a standard pad. But at the end of the day it is the best control method to use for fighting games. Wheels best for raceing games. And you have to admit k/m is best for FPS.

All games can be played with the pad sure, but it isnt always the best method.

TBH I hope it doesnt happen enless the servers are segmented (likely). Youll get use to it after a while. Im actually at the point now where I prefer console FPS with a pad. Like ill buy COD etc. on PS3 or 360 over PC. My housemates will even plug in a 360 controller for PC games like Crysis & L4D. Aint that converted though lol. :/

That's how rugby was invented :D
Well you can take that analogy a few steps further then and see where it ends up

"I'd score more goals if I could throw the ball forward, not backwards"

"I'd be able to run faster all the time if I had longer breaks between playing"

"I wouldn't get hurt as easily if i had body Armour on."

Oh wait what game are we playing now? Girly American Football.

If consoles allowed mouse and keyboard i would either play on pad only servers or if that option wasn't available just not play the game online at all. Mouse + kb is more responsive than pads and therefore would give a huge advantage to people that used it. I've had enough of hunching over to use a mouse, i like lying down on my sofa with a pad, keep things the way they are imo.

Using a pad for racing games is probably the fastest way anyway.

Just put the time in fella, that's what I did and now I feel I'm as good with a pad, as I ever was on a mouse - i.e. 9/10 hits on target using both methods.

I hated the idea of using a pad for a fps game and always was the one outspoken about it with mates, but a weekend long session with GRAW on 360 had me converted, and I haven't looked back :)

Scort.
