Hi all,

I remembered seeing a slide at some point that demonstrated how back in 2004, the original Xbox and PS2 made a big leap in performance vs PCs at the time, whereas current consoles are rather lacking in performance compared to PCs

I'd be immensely grateful if anyone that is familiar with such a slide/data sheet could post a link to it :-)

Many thanks

e: ahh slide/data sheet...hmm

I don't remember the xbox 360 ever outperforming a good PC. The graphics quality was never anywhere near PC level.

According to the graph, it will have been around launch. I would imagine within a few months NVIDIA will have released a new GPU that was significantly more powerful than a 360.

The choice of a non linear logarithmic scale feels like its been designed to suggest PC graphics grunt hasn't moved on as much leaps as consoles.

GPU Flops is just one of many metrics (compute) so it doesn't tell the whole story, even PC CPU's that were around back in 2013 (Bulldozer lol?) were way ahead of the PS4/Xbox One Jaguar CPU.

In some areas consoles have already surpassed PC though, ie. they have better memory architecture and better optimised operating systems. Not to mention PC GPU's and decent monitors are just a rip off now compared to consoles and 4K TV's. Next generation should go a long way towards killing off PC gaming as it'll be hard to justify the expense.

360 was launch in November 2005, just a few months after the 7 series of cards launched.

Nvidia didn’t release the superb 8 series for another year.

Still go for over £100 now, could get an Xbox One X for £250 with 2 games.

Isn't the PS5 supposed to be about £500, be interesting to see how they stack up.
PS5 is around 10 teraflops. Not even as powerful as a 3 year old 1080Ti. The days of consoles being more powerful than PC’s at launch are over.

new Xbox is 12, so midway between a 1080Ti and a 2080Ti.
