360 (29.1%) consoles sold 11,046,397

PS3 (19.9%) PS3 consoles sold 4,214,912

Wii (51%) Wii consoles sold 9,984,063

How will sales look in 1,2,3,4,5 years?

I'm not going to be specific with numbers but Wii will sell a crapload, with PS3 probably overtaking the 360 worldwide in a few years but both still behind the Wii by a wide margin.

Does it really matter though? I'm happy with my 360 and PS3 so I couldn't care less what sells more.

i'm not sure the ps3 can over take the 360 in sales

i think MS has a lot of tricks up its sleave to boost sales, it could slash the price of its console, make live free, iptv,...

The only place the 360 is doing well is the US at the mo, in Europe and Japan its being out sold on a weekly basis, there will be a big jump in sales in September when Halo 3 is out. I can see the PS3 doing very well at Christmas this year, loads of exclusive games (2 timed i know), the Hype machine for MGS4 and Killzone 2 will be at full flow for an early 2008 release. I think some have been put off its price for an impulse purchase where as Christmas is the perfect time to ask Santa for one.
Im sure Sony have a lot of ideas too when in comes to selling more PS3s they done quite well selling consoles so far.

No.

Currently the console is outselling the 360 in the UK by over four to one, and the PS3 by more than six to one each week. If it keeps it up, it should pass the GameCube's lifetime UK sales figure of just over a million by the end of September.

If the Wii is outselling the PS3 6:1 and the 360 4:1 the 360 is outselling the PS3 3:2.

Your forgetting Japan. The PS3 will also have price cuts.

It won't make live free, more chance of Sony charging us for their service :p However I don't think it will happen any time soon
With gaming becoming much more mainstream and with Japan not having a massive population will Japan continue to be so important in the future?
I'm not sure that it will.

Doesn't Japan have a population of over 120million?
Crikey where did they all come from?
You're right, I had thought that there were about half that number.

Still compared to the UK, USA and Europe combined it is not such a big population, so will it continue to have such an effect on gaming?

Japan is an island nation located off the east coast of the Asian continent. The archipelago of about 7,000 islands runs almost 3,000km northeast to southwest. The total land area is just under 388,000 square kilometers, roughly equal in size to the US state of Montana or 1.5 times the land area of the UK. Only about 16% of the land is fertile, the rest being mostly forest-covered mountains. Japan is located on the western rim of the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire" and as a result suffers from frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity. There are four main islands - Honshu, often referred to as the mainland, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku. Read more about the regions of Japan.

The population of Japan is approximately 126,580,000 (August 1999) of which 51.3% is female, 48.7% male. In 1920, the population was about 56 million and the projected population for 2050 is just over 100 million of which a third are expected to be aged 65 years or over, up from the present 17%.

I think this is relevant to this thread

Analysts predict PS3 to beat 360 for July
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter notes in an investor letter released today that he expects NPD monthly sales figures to favor the PLAYSTATION 3 over the Xbox 360 for the month of July. With 160,000 and 115,000 projected sales, respectively, Pachter credits the shift to the PS3's July price drop and the negative press surrounding Microsoft's hardware woes.

The report, writes Wired's Chris Kohler, puts the Wii ahead of both systems sales combined, some 330,000 units sold. While I can easily believe the PS3 vs. Xbox 360 sales figures, Nintendo console sales seem suspect. Seriously, where are these 330,000 people finding their Wiis? I've literally never seen one in stock. My girlfriend had to buy me one on her lunch break

If they drop the price here in Europe then they'll have all the Sony lovers buy it right away for Christmas. Especially with PES, all of those people still playing it on the PS2 will want to move over this year.
