Constantine - Under Rated?

I don't know what the original character was meant to be like, but when I think of the film character I see John Constantine, who looks like Keanu Reeves. In much the same way as I see Christopher Reeve as Superman, or Matt Damon as Jason Bourne.

I guess you could say Constantine is fairly emotionally stunted on the outside, so it lends itself to Reeve's style. If anything, the character in the film is a bit of a rude, smug know-it-all rather than gormless, but despite this is still somehow likable. I can't say whether it's Reeve's acting that provides this duality but somehow it seems to work well.

Well, I'll always think of him as a blonde english bloke who always wears a tan trench coat. Heh, fairly different from Reeves.

IMO the original Constantine was more cynical and selfish than the character in the film. And a much smarter character than Mr reeves will ever be able to portray. ;)

Agreed - good film. Ever since seeing this in the cinema whenever I occasionally walk down the high street I tend to imagine it all up in flames and that it is indeed, perhaps not so contrary to widely held belief, hell itself.

Actually this is one of my - I can watch it again and again movies. Fifth Element, Blade Runner, Ultra Violent (ok, I watch it for Mila!).

I've always like the name Constantine, sounds great, always wanting to watch it though I have never read anything about the film or any reviews etc.

Friend last night says "Do I like A Perfect Circle?" and I of course reply with "yip I love their music". Passive on youtube was quickly linked to, and now I am in work busting to get home to rent out the film after seeing this thread :D

Oh, and I am on my lunch hour, with my iPod on shuffle, and as soon as I typed in A Perfect Circle into the search box, Sleeping Beauty from the Mer de Noms album comes on... freaky eh?

i was going to mention this. ive sene the film 4 or 5 times since its release and i never ever saw that ended until a few months ago. awesome film, very underrated. a little ropy in places but who cares lol

You my friend have just made my day.

It has to be reeves playing him again, otherwise it'd looks stupid.

So he is back.

Was about to post it was worth it for that song :P

I enjoyed it but I wouldn't describe it as a great film. Keanu Reeves was miscast as Constantine although Tilda Swinton (who normally sets my teeth on edge) was perfect for Gabriel. Some of the CGI is a bit iffy too.
