Its for 48 months......135 each month..
Ahh, almost £7k in total then!

My Rover 214i cost me about £300. OK so I got it cheap and put a few days work into it to get it up to standard but you could It's a few years older but ideal first car, infact I am selling it to my friend as a first car.

You can pick up Rovers so cheaply now and the 200/25 are good first cars.

For £1k you could get a very late Mk3 "bubble" 200. Personally I would spend £500 and get a cheaper one which you can dent and scrape and not be too bothered.

Ok I phoned CAB this morning, they told me because I signed on the garages premises I will not be entitled to a cooling of period.

I did say to CAB, where would I stand If I cancelled the direct debit, and walked away from the deal, the lady advised me not too do it , as they could take me to court and get me that way....

shall I just walk away from it?

Don't walk away, it would have bad implications on your credit score. Best bet is to speak to the finance company themselves and explain the situation.

You could try and say that the dealer didn't explain that you couldn't walk away from it etc, and plead ignorance.

I think the mk2 with honda engines are the best quality and value but obviously the newer ones are a bargain and shiny and stuff. dont think any mk3 came with a honda engine, their insurance group might be a problem for a young driver

Insurance group 6, costs me under £1200 TPFT with pass plus. Not too bad IMO

Jesus christ this has to win bad deal of the century  Almost £7000 for a 4 year old rover 211?!

I cant offer any legal advice but you need to try and wangle your way out of this in any way you possibly can :(

He's breaking FSA regulations by not giving you a copy of the agreement to start with.

The FSA dont look too well on this.

Threaten to contact the FSA with regards to the finance, he'll soon bend over and take his pants down for you

This is the best advice in the thread.

Light at the end of the tunnel...........at last

I phoned the garage again!, and I asked them who was financing the deal, they told me the company, so I rang them.....

After 10 mins in the queue, I got through, I explained the situation, the lady who was dealing with me was very professional, but couldnt find my details on the computer. After 15 mins of searching she came to the conclusion that he told me the wrong finance company!!!

I was pretty pi**ed at this point....

She then said there is a possibliity that it could be another financial company and give me their details...........A very nice thing to do!

I rang this company....I finally got through.....this was the company who financed the deal......yipeeeeee

I explained the situation, and the advisor tells me that the finance wasnt through yet, the garage hadnt received the money....and I was in the right to walk away.......

I contacted the garage, and explained to them what the finance company said, the garage still tried to persuade me to buy the thing, I refused they even offered me lower monthly repayments.....

I said NO!!!!!!!!!!!!, he cancelled the deal, I went home....

so now Im a free man again.............still looking for a car..............

Good man, pleased for you :)

This forum is good for buying advice and what to pay / expect etc. Get a thread started with your needs from a car - there's a lot of people here with a lot of knowledge :) (some with creepy amounts :o)

Next challenge is to buy a good first car for the same amount needed as a deposit for that one :D

Can you tell us what the car was, Iam wondering why he was so desperate to not let you go. I think he was taking quite a lot of profit some how

So: "After a long hard think, I decided i cant really afford the car and contact the garage, they say I cant back out and its gone too far"

So the garage was lying about something that could have not only bankrupted you, but made your life an absolute living misery - a situation that has caused many people to kill themselves? This makes me physically sick. I'd have a personal vendetta against them for the rest of my life. In fact, give me their details. I will personally go and uppercut every person in the building.

It's in the linked thread on the last page

Its a Rover.

Knew they couldnt pin it on you, especially after you gave them an advance in notice. Any car lease agreement, a proper way will end up in you signing some final papers once the car is physically there then you are legally bound!

Anyway, good news.
