and how much do you pay?

I had an eye test at Vision Express (mistake) and they tried to get me on their contact7 plan where I'd be paying £29/month for monthly disposable lenses. The plan includes free eye tests and replacement lenses if you lose them but it seems very expensive!

What do you guys use?

I need astigmatism lenses by the way.

Cheers

I use daily disposables from VE.

Cost around the same per month if I wore them every day (I don't).

Keep pondering changing to another brand, these sometimes feel a bit scratchy on my eye.

I was on the Contact7 plan through Vision Express, £25 for dailies. But now because I don't use them every day I have a stash so I cancelled it for the time being, but not before getting a couple of eye tests out of them :) (should've only been one, as I needed it for my ACU race licence, but they booked me into one of the useless people first before realising I needed a proper eye test...)

I believe you can get the same thing quite a bit cheaper online, ultimately all you need to know is your prescription and this is probably the way I'll go next time...

I think mine are about £17.50 a month from Optical Express.

Interesting thing is they're trying to convince me to have laser eye surgery with them. That's a bit short-sighted (badum-tish) of them isn't it? If I have that done, I wouldn't be buying any more contacts off them.

Daysoft seem to be the cheapest but they don't have lenses for astigmatism.

I tried a pair from VE for the first time yesterday and they were great, but i can't decide whether to pay the premium for lenses or just get a couple of pairs of glasses.

I'll go to Specsavers on Saturday and see what their prices are like.

Does anyone not wear lenses or glasses these days? I think I'm the only person in my work who doesn't, and that's probably just because I've not had an eye test since I was 8. (I'm now 31)

Been wearing them for the past 15 years and have always had them through Boots.

I pay ~£15 pcm on their vision plan for 30 day continuous wear lenses with all eye tests/aftercare included. When I was on dailies I was paying £25 pcm.

Stick with a opticians until you find out what you perfect prescription and contact lenses type it. Cancel any monthly agreement you have with them then get you contacts if and when you need them from a place like this:

http://www.contactlens.co.uk/

They wanted to charge me something like £25 a month when I could get a 3 month supply of lenses for £26 and that's if I wore them everyday which I didn't so it would last longer than 3 months.

£17.50 a month over 10 years is £2,100. Most of that £17.50 will be just paying for the lenses. And that's assuming you stick with them. They'd probably charge you over £3,000 for laser eye surgery. It'll cost them near nothing.

This thread is very interesting and useful for me.

I'm going to go on a free 3-month trial at my opticians for some contact lenses this year. Partly because I look a lot better without glasses and my lenses are getting pretty thick.

I've been told that due to my prescription (I have 10% astigmatism, -4.75 in my right eye, and in my left -4.25 I believe) monthly lenses will be perfect match for my eyes, as I will be wearing them all the time; whereas daily disposables will be a 'best-fit' and won't be as sharp.

I'll look at some of the online retailers listed here so I can save some money there, and it will be an interesting experience, as I have been wearing glasses for 10 years or so now.

I'll just need to use some creams (if the cucumbers don't work) to get the bags under my eyes sorted /metrosexual as they will look much more apparent with contacts.

Thanks everyone.

Kind regards,

David

Which optician are you getting a trial with?

Vision Express wouldn't let me take any lenses away without signing up to their monthly payment scheme!

Hi Kingbal,

I'm with Tesco Opticians at the moment. Got a couple of designer glasses from them over 2 years ago on a 2for1 offer.

I'll double check how long the free trial is, but I've not had to pay for any tests and my contacts should arrive in time for my second consultation when I get to learn how to use them and clean them.

Fingers crossed I get on with the contacts!

Kind regards,

David
