Contracts seem to be getting ridiculous in price!

Flicking through The Sun earlier I saw an o2 advert for the HTC Sensation XL.
£57 a month for 24 months. That's £1368! You can get the phone sim free for £450. Even the Galaxy Nexus is just over £500 sim free. Where do they get their prices from? Is it just o2 that are so expensive?

No, it's just that particular contract is an outrageously bad deal. There are plenty of very reasonable ones around.

Or it may have been for thousands of minutes.

Exactly, it is probably free on cheaper tariffs. The o2 website is pretty bad as well.

Just be thankful you don't live in USA. Their contracts are even worse :s

Their investment costs are far higher. It'd be like a network trying to have 90% coverage over Europe.

Thats why you should have gotten a job at T Mobile, P4U, or Asda 6-7 years ago to snag a 50% reduction for life with T Mob :p

I would say that what you get on contracts, particularly data allowances have gotten worse. If I was getting a new contract today, I wouldnt touch anything other than the one plan on 3.

Though that might be case. It's probably because they know some people have no clue so they'd just go for that "offer" anyway

Not everyone can afford to pay £400+ upfront for a phone.

If they needed a good deal, maybe they should look at a cheaper phone?

I think contract prices have gone up in the last couple of years, when smart phones started to become popular. I got a HTC Magic soon after launch and cost me £25 for 18 months. A similar deal is about £35 now.

Well two contract terms ago I had to pay £200 for an LG Arena upgrade. Other than that I've had a free K850i, X10 mini pro, and next a free Lumia 800 because I was threatening to leave.

When I got the LG arena, if I threatened to leave they would have called my bluf because there was no way of getting a better contract elsewhere. Now I can threaten to leave for the One Plan and get awesome upgrade deals :)

Yea thats why I took an X10 mini pro last time because it was free, and its an epic texting phone for easy use of forum browsing.

Even with its tiny screen, its the best phone Ive ever used with Opera mini due to the qwerty keypad. But now I gets a Lumia 800 :)

T mob just let me upgrade my tariff from flext 35 + wnw max, to flext 40 and wnw max while keeping my discount from when I do my next upgrade.

So my tariff will now be:

£31.85 pm, £225 pm allowance for calls and texts inc 08 numbers (1125 mins or 2250 texts) plus 10 Gb internet with tethering and voip.

Anyone jealous? :p

I can also add unlimited texts for £5 pm but dont need those, I have more allowance than I'll ever need. £20 pm for £225 allowance, £11.25 pm for 10 Gb internet with tethering and voip, plus a little extra since the vat increase. Sweeeeeeeeet tariff!

While that's a great tariff, I don't think anyone will be jealous as most people don't use anywhere near that many minutes, texts or internet, and there are plenty of fairly cheap internet tariffs about with unlimited data, etc.

True, I only use the data and not the mins or texts, but for just an extra £2.50 a month and changing to old tariffs being removed soon by T mob, I thought I should take it.

I can start using it for my 08 calls I think, but I will ask them again when I get the upgrade done what numbers are included / excluded from the flext allowance.

All my communication is done online these days, with the occasional calls to customer supports.

Yes. £1 /min to international mobiles and 40p min to landlines. You can only use £112.5 on premium calls like international and 08 numbers.
