*** Control (Remedy Games) ***

I'm also playing through my free Epic copy. Quite enjoying it, but I'm only about five hours in and already the combat is starting to feel a bit repetitive. I do like the physics and at first I was really enjoying using launch and dodge and all the mayhem that ensued. But the enemeies all respawn in the same places and there doesn't seem to much variation in either setting or enemy type, so I feel like I've been having the same battle over and over again for a couple of hours. My strategy is basically grab object, launch, shoot until launch recharges, grab object...

I am enjoying the story and atmosphere. It looks great and it has a good level of challenge, but I hope some more variety opens up soon.

Unlocked a few new guns and met some new enemies and have been liking it more over the past few hours. Some nicely weird sections and the atmosphere of the game continues to be pretty well put together. It is still a bit on the repetitive side, but less so than I thought previously.

There are some really tough fights, though, especially as it's so hard to regen health.

Those invisible ******** have been giving me conniptions every time I've met theme...

What weapons, mods and abilities did everyone run with? I've been sticking with grip and shatter with damage and headshot mods and maxed out launch asap.

Grip and Pierce for me at the moment, headshot damage mods cranked up as far as the pick ups allow. Pierce is pretty OP to be honest.

Ah, I might have to give it a proper go then. I only had a quick play with it but thought its charge time might be difficult in the context of the fast-paced nature of the game's combat.

It's pretty mad for picking off targets at range, even big ones, and effective at medium range in duck and cover as long as you keep your head and don't panic. If you start getting pushed then just ditch and get the Grip out.
Great game and surprise of the year for me.

I've been playing this lately, not sure what to make of it, it has a kind of F.E.A.R. vibe to it but with worse combat. It also gives me shivers down my spine in places, kind of odd because I don't feel "scared" if you know what I mean, just invokes a physical reaction? Very odd.

Had been saving up my money to buy upgrades etc later but given you lose 10% when dying I figured I'd just buy all the weapon types to avoid wasting so much money on death.

Checkpoint pacing is a bit off, I've got this annoying save at the moment where I have to run quite a long way to get to the boss fight (where I've died a few times) sometimes getting attacked by minions on the way. Control point should be a lot closer to the main room where the boss fight is IMO.

Throwing objects seems a bit OP relative the weak power of guns but I guess that's kind of the idea, maybe I should invest more in Energy.

Not really bought into the storyline yet, the NPCs seem a bit wooden more like you'd expect from a game 15 years ago.

I actually like the game, but the washed out look of the graphics i don't understand, makes game look like a half life 2 era game, is this the design of the game ? also all the textures of the vending machines item/food, are just in white wrappers and terrible textures also, normal ?

Yeah it does look a bit washed out, the cynic in me wonders if this is a way of making RTX look more impressive, i.e. you wash out the normal visuals so RTX stands out more.
A few things to check:
  • Make sure motion blur is disabled
  • Make sure Film Grain is disabled
  • Make sure you aren't using upscaling (i.e. reduced render resolution and DLSS), although dependent on monitor resolution you might want to for performance reasons
It might also just be an aesthetic they are going for, in particular the hotel they probably want it to be like an old washed out movie look or something. And just generally wanting to make it like some oppressive institution, with the benefit of the supernatural stuff standing out more.

Yup, i do that in every game if there in options, any ideal why the textures of the vending machines item/food, are just in white wrappers and terrible textures ?

White wrappers is obvious, that's part of the general 1984 vibe they are going for, people locked away in an institution with bland snacks, you don't want fancy wrappers etc.
As for the texture quality, I guess that's just an issue with the assets not being high enough resolution, I assume you have textures setting on max?

Recently finished this and really enjoyed it. In terms of the story, was wondering if anyone knows the following:
1. So when Jesse reaches Hedron, there is a big HRA on the outside of the chamber to stop the Hiss getting into hedron, yet when you go in theres loads of them around. Do they come in because you unlock the door or were they already in there ?
2. When Jesse gets to the area where the slide projector is running, she can see the 5 towers like extended fingers, does that mean the gateway to that dimension has been open all this while ? And if so how come the Hiss didnt come from Slidescape 36 but instead come from the burned slide that Director Trench uses in the projector. As Darling states, Trench gets infected in slidescape 36 which I presume means that the Hiss are present in both slide 36 and the burnt slide.
