*** Control (Remedy Games) ***

I think it must be the intended look of the game, but the game looks 10 years old to me, like textures from half life 2 etc, not a bad thing i guess, but looks washed out and a old game, but i like the gameplay.

[Edit] Ignore - realized I am comparing my 1440p ultrawide to regular 1440p benchmarks!

Very late to the game here, but just started playing Control for the first time!

Performance question... I am getting ~70fps on 1440p High settings with RT off on a 6900XT and 5900X (latest AMD drivers etc.). Quick look at benchmarks suggests I should be getting more like ~100fps. Any ideas what settings I might be missing here?

The bit of the game where she puts the headphones on and the take control song plays as you navigate through the Maze was probably the coolest gameplay and visually impressive I played in any game that year what was it 2019? I am hoping Remedy are still working on some great if different games like Control. I still need to play the Alan Wake DLC.

There's a somewhat similar bit in The Foundation that I found pretty cool as well.

Haven't played the AW DLC either.

Overall, I think the Oldest House was a great setting, wish it had been a bit better realised as utilising Metroidvania concepts for this was a really good move and could've been taken further.

Not a perfect game but I enjoyed it a lot still.

DF have now done a video on the HDR and additional RT features:

You need to watch it in HDR though, so make sure to use Edge or Chrome lol on Windows.

Getting back into this as it was on Steam sales for £6.

It seems extremely demanding on GPU, not in the typical sense as I can lock the game to 100fos with DLSS Quality at 4K no prbs with max RT, even with the native HDR and extra rays/bounces mod from above. The demand is on the GPU temps, this is the only game that makes the undervolted 4090 exceed 400 watts and reach 80 degrees, read that again, it bypasses the MSIAB tweaks seemingly and the GPU is forced to exceed 400watts when every other game inc Indiana Jones when ray traced with DLSS runs at under 72 degrees!

With DLAA it's at a constant 75fps 4K for ref.

Kinda gnarly :D

I forgot how good the game actually is once you sit down with it and pay attention to the story.

I figured out the extreme GPU use, since the mod was installed a new option at the bottom of RT settings that increases the rays/bounce count for RT is what does it, visually there is barely a difference with it on, only very very subtle, yet the GPU goes from under 70 degrees to nearly 82 in most areas. Insane. Have toggled that option off but left the others on such as increased texture quality (Max vs Ultra).
