hey all, currently running a gigabyte ga x58 ud3r (rev 1), which only has marvell sata 6gb ports, now they dont support trim and are slow as most of you know.

Was wondering if any of the sata cards you can buy for 6gb support trim? if not looks like im gonna have to upgrade, which is a shame as the 920 at 4ghz eats everything i throw at it.

any ideas? many thanks

Rich

I've got an ASMedia AS1061 SATA3 card which I'm about to install a Samsung 830 on.

A quick google confirms that it passes through Trim as it should.

Doesn't look like it'll be quite as fast as native SATA3 on a 67/77 board, but should be close.

[edit] Fresh out of the box I'm seeing 370MB/s read and write, which looks close to maxing out the PCIe 2.0 x4 interface on this card.

I'm not moving to Z77 any time soon, so it'll have to do. I'll confirm Trim once I'm up and running with the OS on.

Can't you just use the SATA2 ports?

I Recently upgraded from a P45 based S775 motherboard to a new Z77 motherboard. My M4 SSD is now plugged into an Intel SATA3 port. Ignoring benchmarks there isn't enough difference to be worrying about, and definitely not enough to justify an expensive upgrade.
