I just bought a netbook today in the sales and i need to put a program on there that is on a disc.... I was wondering if there was a program i could use to convert the disc to usb then i dont have to buy a external dvd drive....
So is there a program which will let me convert a disc to something i can put on a usb then use that to install
Thanks a lot

i dont understand...cant USBs store anything? if its ISO format just use win rar. If its other formats like from games. Just run setup.exe

Put DVD / CD in the drop of PC... plug in USB Pen / HDD .... Select all the files on the DVD / CD and copy them onto USB Pen / HDD

Put USB Pen / HDD into Netbook, install application from Pen.

Unless its a game or similar with copy protection but if its something like Office for example it would be fine like this.

* Presumes USB Storage device has enough space to store the contents of the DVD / CD

Personally I would just share the DVD drive via the network.

Or use ImgBurn to rip them as ISOs and use a virtual CD drive on the netbook to mount them.

that would not work with his restore cd/dvd as this will not make it a bootable device. if you do a google search there are lots of how to's on making a pen drive bootable, then no more need for cd/dvd drive.

Do you need to install an OS on there via USB?.

This is also a good little tool for creating a bootable USB drive :-

Novicorp Win to Flash

Run it, point it at a folder with your chosen Windows install files in it and let it do its stuff. Quick and painless.

It's freeware too.

download a copy of UBUNTU.

Burn the ISO to a disk and run the live distro from that disk.

In there, is a sweet little utility that will convert any CD or DVD to a USB stick.

I have used this App to make up Windows installation disks on Flash drive for pretty much every windows setup I have and it works flawlessly... That will do what you want, if you need bootability.

Otherwise as has already been said, simply copy the files over, but if its copy protection that you are trying to by-p[ass then you are not going to get to go around that.
