Are cooking threads all going to turn into 'Who can take the best depth of field pictures of food'
Tbqh I think its annoying because it hurts my eyes.
Nice steak though :D

How can it hurt your eyes, that's how you naturally see!

Nothing is always in focus and always on a 2D plane, it's also a hell of a lot better than getting phone pics imo :p

Oh for god's sake, call me old fashioned or whatever, but what the hell happened to natural looking photos where all objects are in focus?

It's getting tiresome now.

Pinhole cameras have an annoyingly long exposure time...

Yes, and I'll see like that if I'm focussing on the steak in the middle - I don't need the photo to come out that way as well.

Take one of the ones above where you can see the mash in the background. Thanks to how the photo is taken I don't get a chance to have a look at it in focus.

it's a matter of how little light i had to play with, I had to make the choice between everything in focus and more noise or take advantage of a wide lens and have less noise, I decided on the first. To get both i wouldve had to crank up the flash which the batteries werent charged on, or get out the tripod...tbh I couldnt be bothered for a few photos for a forum

Nice camera.. Auto mode.. Press the take photo button.. Job done?
Same battery used as fannying about with focuses and that surely?

why the hell would i want to ruin an absolutely gorgeous rib eye with sauce? Mash most definitely doesnt need anything (uber creamy because of cheese etc) and corn is corn

I don't get why people are complaining in every thread about DOF. Almost every recipe site I've come across uses DOF when taking photos of food.

First picture I came across when googling 'recipes' :

ZOMGDOF!

certain forum members have been very critical of that style of photography, claiming the people on here that are fond of that style lack the talent to take photographs that are "properly focused"

Know as a joke when others use it, people criticize their photos.
