Hey guys

I made a Lasagne for me and my kids today for lunch.

This is the receipe and the instructions.

Minced Beef
1 Large Carrot
1/2 a Large onion
6 Button Mushrooms
Garlic - fresh
Olive Oil
Oregano
Nutmeg
Cheddar Cheese
Parmasian Cheese
Butter
Flour
Milk
Worcester Sauce
Side Salad
Garlic Dough Balls
Pasta Sheets

This is what I did
1. Grate up 1 large carrot
2. Grate up one half of a large onion
3. Grate up 6 button mushrooms
4. Grate up 3 cloves of garlic
5. Add all the above to a bowl and mix, adding a pinch of Oregano and salt and black pepper.
6. Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a frying pan and add the bowl of mixed ingredients
7. Cook on a medium heat until the onion starts to brown (stirring), then add 2 tablespoons of wine cook until the alcohol is burnt off, and add a few drops of worcester sauce.
8. Add the minced beef once the beef is brown (still stirring) lower to a simmer and add 1 heaped table spoon of tomatoe puree, cook for another 30 seconds and then add the tin of chopped tomatoes (although upon opening the tin, I realised they were not chopped, so I have to chop them quickly when in the frying pan - LOL)
9. Leave cooking on low heat and stir occasionally.
10. To make the sauce I added 3 heaped tablespoons of butter to a sauce pan - once melted I added one heaped spoon of flour and 100ml of milk, mixing up until it made a paste. Add two pinches of nutmeg to the cheese sauce base
11. Continue to cook for a few minutes adding 100ml more milk twice over a 2-3 minute period.
12. Add the grated cheddar cheese (was lazy and bought pre-grated from Supermarket) and continue to mix.
13. Get an oven dish and add half of the now cooked mince meat to the dish and then make a single layer of pasta sheets, taking care not to overlap the sheets - or they dont cook too well
14. Then pour over a layer of the cheese sauce (using half of the cheese sauce)
15. Then pour over the rest of the beef and tom sauce. Then complete with a last layer using the rest of the cheese sauce.
16. Sprinkle over a thin dusting of parmasian cheese and nutmeg.
17. Put in the oven which should have been pre-heated prior to starting

I served it with a side salad and some garlic balls which I bought from the Supermarket - which also went in the oven.

Sadly I forgot to take pics - however next time I made it I will take snaps :)

Try it, its a great nice meal which is fairly quick and in-expensive to buy.

Where's the pasta? :/

And pregrated cheese? Really? Awful, awful invention. In my local ASDA there was a better selection of grated cheese than 'proper' cheese until they installed a dedicated cheese fridge at the end of last year. It angered me.

In response to your post below - Always better to use the premade pasta sheets than try and make them yourself, I really don't see the point in making pasta yourself. It's such a hassle for negligible difference in quality.

The most important step in making a lasagne, for me anyway, is....

Once cooked let the lasagne cool and then put in the fridge over night. Next day cut yourself a portion, put on a plate and microwave.

So much nicer, in my opinion, the next day.

Is there only one layer of pasta in there? I'm not sure it can qualify as lasagne with only one layer of it :p All the same I bet it tastes good anyway :)

I've never found it to be that quick: 10 minutes prep, up to an hour for the bolognese, 15-20 minutes for the bechamel/cheese sauce, then at least 20 minutes in the oven. But it's well worth it so long as you get your pasta to sauce ratio right.

Nice :)

I usually add a couple of stalks of chopped celery to my meat sauce and maybe a tablespoon of balsamic.

The cheese sauce can be made a bit easier by whisking the flour into the cold milk and then heating it up. Add the butter as it starts to warm up and the cheese once its melted. No lumps :)
I'll add a teaspoon of english mustard powder to it too.

my wifes vegetarian so i cant make nice proper lasagne's :( make do with quorn mince for vegi onces though that turn out well enough :D

uggghhhh,
just make a decent vegi lasagne, you can either layer sliced veg up (butternut, aubergine, peppers etc) or make a "bolognese" using diced aubergine.

Home made I made a Lasagne is truly the food of Gods. Well done sir, I like adding a layer of spinach to the mix as well.
