Cooking with Jonny69: Real pasta sauce ***WORLD EXCLUSIVE*** with pics

Oh, and I want to thank you for mentioning using lots and lots of garlic! too many people are afraid of using it and use it sparingly or not at all.... garlic when fried in olive oil has one of the greatest natural flavours you can find and is the heart of most italian cooking.

Nice one Johnny  Being a student; pasta is always a good fall back when you've got nothing in, and buying dolmio is ridiculous (price)

idea - get a job with dominos :D

The thing is though a lot of people don't know how to cook this sort of stuff. It's basics but anyone can do it and there's no b.s. or snobbery involved. And you get to make a cannon at the end.

I wonder what muck the people that read these threads and actually learn something must actually be eating.

I generally eat nothing but fruit and pasta (not togethor) because i cant be bothered to cook. However these recipes by Jonny69 generally make me a bit more enthuisiastic, and once i start cooking i generally find it quite fun!

SHame that ive got to hand in an assessment tomorrow, which is only half done :(

I would like to see some cooking threads on how to cook a budget meal (and I mean budget!). We spend £100 a month on food for the two of us so budget is good

£100 a month doesn't seem excessive to be honest as it's for 2 of you, so call that £25 a week, I spend £15 a week on myself and thought that was pretty cheap.

You can cook any number of things if you've got some eggs, milk, chicken, pasta, flour and a selection of spices.

Jonny69 - Would be great if you could get these on your site (seeing as search is out of action atm). Ive got it bookmarked for that reason entirely!!

:D

yeah, the £100 includes nappies, wipes, household products etc. Its tight but we eat every night lol

I was expecting something...more. That is the most obvious pasta sauce recipe ever. Not only that but you used properly budget ingredients. I am a a student and i don't cook with value tomatoes.

Onions, Puree Herbs such as fresh basil and coriander, sundried tomatoes, olives etc etc. So much more to do other than your bog standard one.

Edit: and don't forget this is a pasta sauce base that you can add anything else you like to ;)
I take it they don't teach you to read at university any more then :D

His point was that everyone knows how to make a tomato based sauce like the one in this thread, you get some tomatoes and add whatever you want in it.

I did pasta tonight too for me and my daughter. Tagliatelle with a cheesy mushroom sauce.

1/4 inch thick slice of butter (half an ounce?)
heaped tablespoon of plain flour
pint of milk
Three average sized slices of strong cheese
5-6 medium sized mushrooms chopped
clove of garlic smushed
pinch of mustard powder
salt and pepper

Throw butter and flour into a pan over a medium heat. Once the butter is absorbed by the flour slowly add the milk. Keep stirring so there are no lumps. Add mustard, garlic, mushrooms, cheese, salt and pepper and heat until it thickens and goes creamy.

Pour over pasta.

Edit: P.S. I nearly always add a drop of balsamic vinegar to Italian tomato sauces, it really adds to the flavour.

You would be surprised how little a lot of people can cook, the only thing some people have ever cooked is the cardboard box that goes in the microwave
