Hi all,

Once again I'm looking to change my car. I've had the Golf 2.0 GT TDI for about 6 months and just not really liking it. Can't quite put my finger on why though.

Anyhow, with the trade in price of the Golf (approx £7.5k according to Parkers) and £1.5k I have in savings I would like to get another car.

I'm after a hatchback rather than a saloon or coupe.

I had a quick think this morning and was thinking ST170, Civic Type R, Megane Sport. I would like something cool, however it doesn't have to be a super hot hatch (I know the CTR and Megane are quite).

So, any ideas? What would you guys go for? Doesn't have to be as much as £9000 btw, that's the max, would like to keep it a lot under :p

Cheers,

Edward

Glib answer : 182 with packs and put the rest in the bank :)

Serious answer : what do you actually want from the car other than it being a hatchback? 9 grand is not an insubstantial amount of money.

I would like something sporty, comfy, *some* mod cons (air con, electrics etc). Doesn't need sat nav or anything like that.

As I said, £9000 is top wack, I don't want, or need to spend all of it.

Cheers for the suggestions though guys, keep them coming :D

Is a Leon Cupra R cool? I'm guessing no, but still, they are good cars!

Civic Type R's are around 6-7k for a very decent one.

R32. the halo car

Wouldn't get a MkV R32 for £9k unless it was a total duffer, and the MkIV R32s are just too old now.

Talking of which, I badly want this car:

DSG, Sat Nav, leather, xenons, *swoon*.

Cool though, really?

The coolest hatchback you can get for £9k, is a MkV Golf GTi.

No it isn't.

I would say go test drive really, the power delivery in hatchbacks today is totally different say the GTI compared to the Type R.

So all depends what you prefer, go round and blag yourself some test drives before deciding.

ST170 is a very smart looking car for £5k, have a fair whack for savings then. Bit of power there too, doesnt really compete with the others though.

EP3 is a good shout at £6-7k.

I wouldn't want to blow £9k on a hatchback.

Guys, if he found his GT TDi "dull" for a reason he can't put his finger on, its probably the numbness of the VAG group of cars, rather than anything specific to the GT TDi.

With this in mind, the LCR, the Golf R32, the Golf GTI, will all feel just as crap.

As much as I like my LCR, it's still numb and dull in dynamics compared to a lot of other similar metal. Being fast doesn't always = fun.
