Cool hatchbacks for under £9000

You'd do very well to find an R32 for under £9000, if you do then it'll be a heap. This is for the MK4 too, MK5 R32s seem to start from £15k upwards.

Clio 197, Cooper S are both things in this budget surely?

I'm tired of it too, as soon as i saw it was a golf thread i knew it would turn into another Robbie G / Fox sideshow with both of them arguing like kids and neither refusing to back down

Its getting tiresome :(

Dont worry I'm sure you will be ready to provide us all with a welcome break when you post the newest exciting installment of 'waaaaaaa my car broke and I cant afford to fix it' :p

Does it have to be a hatchback? What are the reasons for it having to be a hatchback?

I used to have a hatchback and thought I always wanted one until I realised I didn't need one. Then I got a saloon and was loving all the extra room. Then I went back to a hatch after my saloon ended up in a field for some reason. Maybe it's because I am under 30 and it seems that saloons/estates are more for the "older generation". However I am 28 now and am lusting after an estate...it will be an MPV next...oh god help me!

Brokeback as in the mountain?

Look at that crappy dash, the gearknob and surrounding area looks like that of a Nissan Micra!

Here's a better view

So, so nasty. I'm sure it's a great car though, I just couldn't live with the interior.

I had an 07 Clio as a courtesy car for 10 days and the interior is really really bad. I was given a 53 Fabia for the next 7 days and the interior was miles better.

I certainly couldn't live with the inside of the Clio and I'm not even a massive snob when it comes to interior quality.

My GF has a 56 (I think) Fabia VRS and I can say I was completely shocked with it. It stands well, handles very well and has performance where you need it and is fast enough for most requirements. The interior is fine, she has the leather seats which make a big difference.

..on a side note, how different is the mk6 interior to the mk5? I had a mk5 courtesy car for around 3 or 4 months the other year and it was just as plain and boring to look at as that Clio's is.

interior of the 172/182/197/200 is not great on any off the spec's (its french after all), but the car makes up for it in other ways... i reckon if u are a dash board stroker then stay away from these

So because a GT TDi is boring, a GTi will be boring also? That's so laughably untrue.

What makes this laughably untrue? What makes a GTi a million times less boring than a not particularly different GT TDi?

I've already discounted speed from this chassis, what with owning what is essentially a MK1 S3 with a different badge, and what with having driven a MK5 GTi on many occasions.

The platform is dull, uninspiring and boring, no matter which engine you put in it.

I disagree with it being so so nasty I would say it is utilitarian rather than nasty; they haven't tried hard but it doesn't look tacky like a ford focus.

Quite harsh no? Surely if reading thier posts tick you off then you should just... I don't know... not read their post??

Clearly opinions from a man (I presume) whose talent has run out far sooner than the GTi's :)

Lol far from it, far, far from it.

More the opinion of a man who has driven cars with decent driving dynamics, cars that certainly do hold on for longer than my bottle does. A Golf (of any variety) isn't one of these cars.

EDIT: Anyone who was at Donington will confirm, I certainly had more talent than my LCR ;)

I get around 30mpg around town and 35mpg on a 80mph run with cruise on. Tyres are around £100 each, servicing is indeed the same and insurance is only marginly more.

Vec averaged around 21 around town, i got 24 on average including some reasonably steady stints

could get 34mpg on an 80mph motorway run.

Seems like pretty awesome economy for 80MPH? At 65-70, they'll both be doing 40~MPG then??

dash board stroker :D
