In MGS when you realise you have to actually fight Rex! and the size of it compared to snake, was awe inspiring. That along with fighting the Hind D whilst absailing the building. And the final chase scene was pretty epic aswell, such a great ending to a game.

In MGS2 when Snake breaks his handcuffs then dives into the ocean after Metal Gear Ray, then turning up at the end completely fine having managed to catch up with it and stick a tracker on it.

In MGS3 when Snake actually counts ocelots juggles to determine where the bullet is and save Eva, and losing his eye in the process.

In Final Fantasy 7 when cloud comes down the stairs on the motorbike. That was awesome the first time.

Every fight scene in Devil May Cry series, especially 4

The Doomsday level of Sonic 3 & Knuckles was epic too. So was fighting Knuckles as Sonic, or fighting Metal Sonic as Knuckles. For such a non-epic game it felt like such a big deal what you were doing.

Probably when I got to the last part of Half-Life 2 and actually completed it. I rarely take time to complete games, so when I do, it's a good feeling.

But the most awesome gaming experience for me has to be when I played Sonic Adventure for the first time, on my brand new Dreamcast. Ahhh... Possibly the best Christmas ever. But then again, I was nine. But even so, it's never been topped. Also, just watching my stepbrother play Shenmue through. We got through it in two days of constant playing. :D But when we saw that opening sequence... Our jaws dropped and they didn't come back up until a few days after we'd completed it.

Suffice to say, the Dreamcast has given me the most excitement out of any console. Even the pure awesomeness of Goldeneye, Super Mario 64 and The Ocarina of Time equal it.

My first Eagle on Tiger Woods 08, I actually stood up with both arms in the air cheering myself :o + :p

Downing Onyxia was pretty awesome, think we got server first. Was pretty awesome seeing the amount of people in Orgrimmar waiting for the head. Haven't played WoW in years, this was a few months after release.

Recently? Call of Duty 4 single player was great, storyline was top notch, ending was superb.

On the PC, probably beating Valestraz for the first time - we knew there were other guilds in BWL at the same time looking for the server first, getting it spot on was amazing - we recorded it with Vent as well, when he goes down everyone goes nuts, then you hear our main tank say sadly "I broke my keyboard...." quality :D

Also, playing a European match in RTCW and airstriking the entire opposing team just as they were about to completely blow through our defences - with a couple of hundred people watching it live, was pretty cool.

On consoles -
Beating MGS 2, was stuck on the end boss with virtually no health, so had to do it the hard way - took about 3 weeks of attempts, I actually humped the telly Pure Pwnage style when he went down.

At the end of disc 1 in FF VII - those who have played it know what I mean, I actually teared up, was amazing to feel so much for a game.

When the vampire dogs jump through the window in Resi Evil - me and my mate were playing it in broad daylight (and both of us in our 20s), he started squealing "get out of there! GET OUT!" while I bricked it, running for the door...

And getting my first perfect lap on Wipeout 2097 :D

Entrance to Black Mesa in Half-Liife had a massive effect on my life.
The 1st time seeing the intro was amazing but afterwards I always wanted to skip it but never found out a way to do it, so it ended up annoying me due to how long it takes to complete.... I could make a cuppa and drink it before Gordon had arrived - it's hardly surprising he was late to work that day, considering how long his train ride takes!

Playing shadow of the beast 2 and being amazed by its parallax scrolling. The music was great also.
Yep, this was an amazing game... and the original one too. I had an ST but a mate had an Ameoba and I was jealous after seeing these 2 games.

bah, you young wipper snappers not know what a true fanboy fight is all about - our generation invented it ;) Fighting over C64, Speccy or erm... Amstrad - then there was always some gimp who's Mum got mixed up and bought an Oric 1 :D

First couple of really cool memories were:-
  • Playing Elite for the first time and being completely blown away by it - I read the book too which came with it, think it was called the Dark Wheel, so I was living the moment.
  • The music from Parrallax on C64 used to send shivers down my spine while it was loading.
  • Flying the Cheese as high as you could go on Mercenary and then jumping out. <------ let's see who remembers that one ;)
More recent cool moments:-
  • The two cinamatic moments in COD4 + the air to ground support mission.
  • First time I played GTA III.
  • First time I played Vice City and got on a Motorbike
  • The opening scene of Half Life
  • First time I played CS online
I was a Speccy fanboy :D The sound wasn't as good as the C64 but it was all about the gameplay, plus the Speccy looked far sexier compared to the brick that was the C64. Then Alan Sugar came along and ruined it all :(

I don't remember Mercenary but I do remember Sabatouer... plus JSW, Manic Miner, Uridium, Firelord, Combat School, California Games, Bounty Bob Strikes Back, Booty, Trans-Am, etc... etc... etc...

Oh, and I definitely agree with your HL and CS comments here

Resident Evil - the dogs in the first corridor, i literally touched cloth. :( there were some very memorable moments on that game, especially beating it under 3 hours, and getting the rocket launcher!! :D :D

Final Fantasy 7 - ive never actually shed a tear over a game before until i reached the point in the game and thought..wtf..most moving moment in a game, ever. the whole game especially the soundtrack will always remain my favorite.

Ace combat 5 - when chopper, slowly and gracefully crashes his plane in the middle of the stadium, unable to eject. all the squadron are saying their goodbyes. quite moving, but the guy was awesome, for a game character, i really liked him :p

Couple of my coolest gaming moments, in no order.
Final Fantasy 7 when i first used a summon and sat mouth open wide just mouthing WOOOW COOOL!

Getting a "Right on Commander" on Elite for the first time

Finding the chainsaw in Doom

The Submarine bit in uncharted when you first come across it

The Psycho mantis boss fight in Metal Gear

Having a huge gunfight in vice city to the tune of 99 red ballons!

Without question the ending of Half Life 2 when the explosion just grinds down to a pause and Alex's expression and posture is in statis.

Absolutely breathtaking bit of gaming cinematography. Captured thoughts, feelings, expressions and punched you in the face begging to know just what will happen.

1st time i played quake.

The part where u first get the nail gun and light in the room goes out. Scared the crap out of me :)

Replayed that many times

Descent,
Playing link up with my friends on decent for the first time, we used to play hide and seek with the ships for hours, never forget that.

I loved that game too, used to exactly the same with a couple of friends of mine.

My favourite memory though is flying down the side of one of the enemy capital ships in Freespace 2. They were simply immense, it seemed to take an hour to go from one end to the other! (was probably more like a minute) but they were just awesome. :D

The first boss on R-Type at the end of Stage 1
I thought the graphics were amazing at the time, I'd never seen anything like it.

GLQuake - I'd been playing quake for a good while before I got my first 3dfx card, couldn't believe it when I saw it, it was a big jump in 3d graphics.

Winner though is GTAIII, very very cool seeing that in motion for the first time.

Finishing Zelda: A Link To The Past on the snes. I'd played games in the past but nothing came close to that. Changed my perception totally of what games could be.

18 years ago now and there's not been many games to match it (Mario 64 booting up for the first time though definitely was a moment). Then again if I played Zelda today I'd probably get bored and go play GTAIV :p

/edit playing TFC for the first time online as a HW (what else?) no idea what the hell was going on but I was hooked for years after.

Beating the special licence on Gran Turismo 2

Especially the Laguna Seca track with the Team Oreca Dodge Viper.

Starfox on the SNES was pretty awesome at the time, when it first started and you flew down the wireframe tunnel :o
