Ive replaced my stock cooler on my 939 skt AMD 3500 with a Freezer 64 Pro.
I replaced the heast sink pad on the cooler with Arctic Silver 5. After running for about 20 mins Core Temp shows the temp is exactly the same as before.

Is it possible to put too much paste on stopping the heat reduction ? (I only used a blob much smaller than a pea)

I also noticed that as I pulled down the restraining bar the cooler was pulled to one side which has left a small part of the CPU uncovered down one edge. Is this part of the problem ?

Also, Core Temp records 27C while another prog Sytem Tool reports 44C. Is there a more accurate util that reports temp?

MAny Thnx

I just fitted one of these couple days ago. yeah the copper plate is a little bit smaller than the CPU is, but when I fitted it, there was a significant reduction in load temps. I didnt bother with additional compound, since it was supplied with stuff that seems up to the job.
It did pull to one side at first as I closed the clasp, but I just worked at it a bit to make sure it stayed nice and central. In all I spent about 20 mins fitting it!

What temp does Speedfan display?

SpeenFan reports 27C

20 mins ! you lucky sod it, it took me forever to fit it, I found it a really tight squeeze. When I first put it on the fan was about 1/4" away from the graphics card. I thought the airflow wouldnt be very good so I turned it round so it faces the memory. Is there there a right and wrong way for it to face ?

I havent tried running it under load yet just desktop stuff, but I'll try and reseat it first.

Definately - turn it around man!
I take it you have a rear exhaust fan?
That seems awfully close to your GFX card, I have about 3 inches there. 'Tis close to my RAm though, the fan guard overlaps and the fan iss about 1CM away. My advice would be to remove the PSU to fit it if you're really struggling. I found that to be the only thing in the way for me (in order to see the top retaining clip was in place)
In the end I shone a torch through the PSU fan (at back of case) and i could see it was sat in just nice. (Y)

Plus you'll notice the bent fins at the bottom, designed to direct air to the voltage converters on your mainboard.

:/we really need a thumbs up smiley on here.
