Hello, well recently on my OEM Machine (Advent Centurion CBE1401) the motherboard died, well atleast I assumed after getting several pointers and tips from posters on here (see here for my previous post http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18265620&page=1).

Anyhow, I swapped my motherboard over for a brand new one. It all booted up well thankfully, scared that it actually may of not been the motherboard. I went ahead and pulled my temperaures up with both AMD OverDrive & CoreTemp and I was shocked to see my CPU temperature significantly high .. I was sitting at 70c-80c idle! What I don't understand is that the radiator is spinning like it's ready to take off, seriously! Ive never heard it spun so hard. I went ahead and booted up this morning and it was just jumping up to 90c ... Considering I'd only just turned the machine on after a night of being turned off.

Also on my old motherboard the radiator was very silent & even with my CPU overclocked it barely breached 45-47c on full load & 28-30c idle. So of course something is not working correctly.

I'm 100% sure that the connections are in the right place, I have clarified with both my manual and the Coolit forums, unfortunately none have given me any advice.

I don't know if this is useful to helping me but when I first start up the machine during the post screen, the radiator is silent (just like it was on old board) & I actually hear the pump but as soon as it boots into windows it's asif it just dies and radiator is going crazy. I must admit if this was an air cooler it would be awesome.

How can I possible fix this?

Thank's in advance.

Start with the obvious, you did apply some thermal paste, didn't you? Edit: Although the fans wouldn't be spinning fast if you didn't so that's probably not it. But still, best to be sure. :p

Come's pre-applied :p

Make sure the Pump is plugged into a PWR Fan connector which runs always at full speed/power and make sure the rad fan is plugged into the CPU Fan socket. But that's definatley not right as I have one myself and....

1. I did actually re-apply some thermal

2. I'm 100% sure that they are connected correctly. Although the board is abit stupid as the SYS_FAN is the bottom of the board ARGH! so because of that I had to turn the pump around so that the connector would stretch far enough to plug it in... does the pump have to be placed in a specific way?

This is how I have it:

Pump = SYS_FAN
Radiator = CPU_FAN

Gutted too because the board is capable of unlocking 2 cores on the CPU, I don't want to go ahead and do it yet until I know I can achieve adequate temps.

Yep, All seems to be in right. Hmm... I have no idea why it's so hot then, Someone probably will know about it more than me though :p

with my 940BE 140w processor with it overclocked to 3.4 gig it hits 50C max.

try turning it around as an intake from the rear port and then exhaust the air out the top.

Did you screw the nuts down by hand or screw driver also?

once thumb screwed up, give another half turn with the screwdriver.

Problem solved. I got my brother to look at it, he noticed the pump wasn't even attached to the motherboard correctly.. it was very loose apparently. Problem solved.. it's now not spinning crazy & Ive successfully unlocked 1 core on the CPU, I'm running prime95 with no problems as of yet. It's now a X3 CPU & stock multiplayer (3.10Ghz)

Suppose it's what I get for doing it myself, I am 14

Haha Congrats, Yeah the screws are a 'lil fidly as you have to push down against the spring whilst you screw it in :) Glad it worked out for you :D

Just a quick question....

Ive hooked the 3pin connector from the pump directly into my Power Supply using a molex. I'm wondering if this is ok & will function correctly like this? As Ive said It seems to be doing ok, I'm sitting at appropriate temperature. I left prime95 running all through last night, it reached 51 and hovered between 49-51c. On idle again 35-38c, although Ive heard my CPU won't give accurate readings if a core is unlocked even within the BIOS, is this true? CoreTemp says temperature is unknown though.

Just thought I'd add also that last night (as my PC right close to my window) I took the side off and let the cold breeze at it & I managed to get the temperatures to 23-25c lol.

At the moment I'm looking at my temperature via EasyTune6, software came on the CD with the motherboard.

I could put it in the SYS_FAN but it means I will have to turn the pump around (360 turn) so that it will actually fit... the SYS_FAN connector is an awkward position on board
